I have had this happen twice. I am in Park, put her into Reverse and whala, nothing. It is like I'm in neutral. Soooo, I put it in drive, hear it engage, then I can go into reverse.
Anyone else?

I have had this or a simular problem on a 05 Gt convertible. Sometimes the transmission would act like it was in neutral then slam into gear in either reverse or drive always from a stop or very low speed in drive. For the first two thousand miles it did it 6 times and the frquency increased with miles.Dealer kept the car for a day and Ford replaced the transmission @ around 5k miles. There have been no further problems now for the past 1000 miles and the new transmission is quieter and more responsive. At this point I believe the problem is fixed.

The Bullitt thing sounds neat.... don't think I would have the stones to try it though..... (least not YET...)

I've got a 5 speed, but having worked on hundreds of Ford automatic transmissions, I can almost guarantee you that the problem is the solenoid pack inside the transmission. This was a real common issue on the Explorers with the same transmission, and although it was supposed to be fixed by '05, it has still been an issue on occasion. Sometimes they'll bang into reverse hard, other times they will stay in neutral for awhile then slam into gear as soon as you rev it.

I had mine do somethign similar once when I got it home from the dealer, stoped put it in park, then into drive and it didn't engage just seemed like neutral. This was at 15 miles and hasn't happened since, now I have 3200 miles on it, so I'm hoping it was a fluke on mine.

Keep track of mis-cues like this and take it back for service. BTW, anybody with an auto tranny GT have any tranny leaks lately?

This just happened today in the auto in my stang. When putting into park it was hard to push, and when on a slight incline, it would'nt engage properly. Anyone else with the problem, or know what might be wrong??

I have had the nuetral thing happen, but only when I have not fully put the stick into "R". Once I feel it not engaging I get off the gas and slip the stick just a tad into place. Not sure how autos work, but it's almost like when you hit the gate between second and third on a manual trans car, which I did every time I tried to show off :bang:

Not to get off the topic here but Fidele I would suggest you and every other auto owner read this thread about transmission leaks - yes there could be an issue with the leak.
