Question Is anyone using the FRPP cold air kit and tuner?

I was just wondering if anyone had ordered the procal tuner and Ford Racing cold air kit for their Mustang? I'm curious because it does have a C.A.R.B. sticker which is always nice to have in Kalifornia.

Do any of the tuners have a tune for the kit?

Any of the popular tuners here (VMP, Brenspeed, Bamachips) can give you a tune for this intake. The intake itself is made by Steeda. The tune which comes with the Ford Racing kit is CARB approved, but conservative. Any of the tuners above will outperform the Ford Racing tune.

I believe the tune is what makes the intake CARB legal. If you go with another tuner, you won't be CARB legal anymore.

I believe are correct steve. I think you get the CARB cert. when you send in the voucher for the procal tool. Nothing says that you have to use the procal tool.

Probably the same with the Whipple because you have to use a voucher to get the procal tool and CARB cert.

P.S. California emmissions sucks!

The CARB sticker comes with the package. You can order the pro-cal if you want to, or use another tune. The pro-cal tuner doesn't allow for any adjustments, most likely for CARB compliance.

I forgot to mention, the pro-cal tool one time failed in the middle of a download and killed my PCM. I had to have the car towed to the dealership to have it returned back to stock. I haven't touched that POS since.

You can always purchase the SCT X-cal II and tunes, from either Bamachips or Brenspeed..

The tunes for the Steeda CAI, are the same for the Ford racing intake..

Rich,

It takes 5 minutes to swap out your stuff for the stock air box. You're spending too much time thinking about this kind of stuff. Keep the wallet closed and enjoy your sweet ride!! If you have the need to spend cash then buy a xbox 360 so I can kick your butt in the racing games.

I have the Ford Racing CAI / ProCal and X-Pipe on Order for install when my car arrives. I understand from reading these forums that there isn't a tune yet available from Ford Racing for the 08s. What will the CAI do with a stock tune? Any improvement in performance?

The stock program is NOT calibrated for the CAI..Therefore your going to have to wait, until FRPP comes out with pro cal tuner for the 08...Or purchase an SCT X-cal II from Brenspeed, that includes custom tunes for the 08

You could also purchase either the X-cal II, or Predator from Bamachips, which both include custom tunes for the 08 as well.

However ! you cannot run the stock program with the FRPP CAI.. Otherwise your car will not operate properly, and may also go into failsafe mode..

I have seen a number of recommendations on the Tuners. I'm going to check with my friendly Ford dealer and find out if I buy the kit, but they don't install it until the tune is available, if the warranty will apply. I'll also see if they install it with a 3rd party tune, can we finesse the warranty with the FR tune when it is available. Although, it looks like some of the recommendations on these threads contain reliable and safe tunes. Anybody have other recommendations?
