Sorry if I missed any relevant posts, but I was wondering: has anyone dyno-tested the CDC shaker using the factory air box?
My most optimistic guess is a maximum of 3 rwhp and some improved fuel consumption.
Any info?

Your optimism would be highly disappointed.

my 2 cents....since I have the shaker. When I first installed it, I removed my CAI and installed the factory setup and flashed the comp back to stock settings. At the end of the day my conclusions were that

1. Man, I hate the stock settings
2. Lots of black residue on my tailpipes so now the car is running rich.
3. The elbow that connects to the stock filter box is too constricting. Since it flattens out both it and the pipe inlet (at the back of the shaker) really restrict the amount of air entering the filter housing, basically starving the system of air.

Since then I removed the stock filter box and reinstalled my CAI and reflashed the comp. I am currently making a new housing that will hold the aftermarket filter and enough air to make up for the restriction of the shaker.

Doc: maybe it's like the guy said on post #2 from your link, the tests were done on a dyno and there was no forced air going into the shaker.

John: I followed your shaker install and I remember the drop in performance after removing the CAI. I hope that my 93 tune will take care of at least the incorrect A/F ratio. I also plan to get a CAI with an airbox, maybe it'll help improve performance.

I don't doubt at all that there was not enough forced air going through it. I was just giving ya what you asked for, dyno pull with and without a shaker

I think the people that are using the shaker with a CAI probably have a far superior setup to the people using the shaker with the stock air box. As to whether or not the shaker actually makes any difference, who knows. Pretty much everyone I know has commented on increased highway fuel economy. I am not going to question them on it because I got quite a nice little increase in highway fuel economy with the throttle body spacer. So anything is possible.

There was no way I was going to ditch my CAI when I installed the shaker. So I took some extra time to modify things to make it all work together. I posted a lot of installation details here three months ago: http://www.modularfords.com/forums/2005-mu...ad-33039-2.html

And FWIW, I had no expectations that the Shaker was going to add any HP whatsoever. I just wanted that cool Mach 1 kind of look for my car.

Don is right, for me the main reason why I ordered the CDC shaker was also the look. If it results in improved mileage, it's going to be a bonus.
Before spring I will have installed a CAI and a new throttle body. I guess it's the next best thing after a SC, which is still out of my budget. I'd better save some more for a brake kit, suspension and wheels.
