? about Stock clutch performance
My brother was talking to me about a week ago and he brought up a good point. When will my stock clutch fail? Like what kind of power numbers am I looking at before I should really consider replacing it? Or how long should the stock clutch last time/mileage wise? I drive the car moderately. Never really driven it 'hard.' Appreciate the input.

Well apparently it will handle 475 RWHP. The killer is usually wear, because the more the disk wears, generally the less clamping force on it. At some point the clamping force will be insufficient to resist the torque and slipping will result, which causes even more wear and slippage. Results will vary widely depending a lot on the drivers technique. Stock it should be good 50k to 100k miles.
Like anything else, it depends on how you use it.
My buddy got over 200k on his '89 GT and he is not light footed.
He has always driven V8 muscle cars though.
If you don't floor it until it is fully engaged it will last a good long time.

You should be good to go for a while. It's all on how you drive it. If you let it slip and smoke it one day (like I did pulling up onto some driveway ramps) it will glaze the surface, and then it will start slipping on you on hard shifts at WOT, like mine did. When I took it out, it still looked great, but I had trouble barking them in third, so it had to go. My fault though.
