synthetic blend from the factory ? really ?

I don't think that's been determined yet. The owners manual recommends a Motorcraft 5W20 blend but it doesn't say that's what comes in it from the factory. It could but we have nothing definite that states it for a fact.

Exactly my point, that is what I want to know for sure. I want to do the hard break in and dump the oil after 20 to 50 miles, but I would want to put in exactly what came in it before I change to what the factory recommends at the recommended milage for the first oil change. Can anybody in the know get that answer for us!
The ONLY 5W-20 oil listed on the Motorcraft Oil and Lubrication website is the Premium Synthetic Blend.

http://www.motorcraft.com/products.a...M=15&PageID=74

If you're planning on using Motorcraft 5W-20 oil for your first change, apparently Synthetic Blend is the only choice you have... Makes the choice easy, doesn't it? B)

No, not really, not if you are going to change the oil after 20 miles, per hard break in proceedure ....what is in the engine at delivery???? :bang:

as seen above.. does the 4.6V8 require 6 quarts of oil?
I just changed my oil AND filter, and it took about 6 1/2 qts. I'll double check the oil level once I dirve it around the block.

Went with Mobile 1 5W-20 (full synthetic). 3,305 miles.
First oil change at 450 miles w/ conventional.

With the synthetic, it seems the oil pressure is a bit higher, operating temp a bit lower, a acceleration a bit better (but I could be seeing things )

What kind of oil did you use at 450...the ford recommended oil is a synthetic blend!

Honestly I'm not sure exactly. I took it to the dealership to cash in on the window tint they owed me, and ask them to change it while it was there. It was pretty cheap, so I imagine it was conventional. Whatever...it's pure man-made slick stuff now

BTW, 6.5 qts. puts it just over the full mark on the dip-stick, so stick w/ 6.0 qts like the manual says.

Lowe,
You should drain off that other 1/2 qt...sounds stupid, but you should NEVER overfill your engine for many reasons

I've already spent the time to have the oil measured to fill, and it is exactly 6.25 qts.

Huh, how 'bout that. I guess I wasn't crazy. I put about 6.5 qts in yesterday, so I'll loosen the drain plug for a second or 2 (what a mess).

Good advice Dave

No problem...just a few problems associated with over filling...loss of horsepower and gas milage, foaming oil..and if it gets excessive, remember, oil pumps cant pump foam

I've always been of the opinion that if the owner's manual says 6 qts, that's what I put in; no more and no less. I use the dispstick only as a reference to see if I'm losing oil. But if you feel more comfortable with that extra 8 ounces of oil, go for it.
