500 horses legally?
#21
500 to the motor will be probably as simple as a blower and a tune. 500 to the wheels will probably be a stretch to keep it smog legal. However, you could always (if you have to go to the sniffer?) put a larger diameter pulley on the blower, and a cleaner tune? I'm not quite sure how higher boost blowers affect emissions. My guess is they would not pass on a race tune. A whipple with the provided tune *should* be smog legal, at least that was my impression. (I could be wrong)

Well i dont know why this has turned into the way it is...all i wanted to know is how the car would get up to the 500 mark with a supercharger...i dont need to know that some people find that dumb, becuase thats their opinion.
If you dont got any advice...and just want to lead me into another direction as into "why go 500 horses?" "cough" DON W "cough" IMO dont post it.....all im looking for is some expertise into those who have known or aquired similar numbers, and in which can help me reach that level of HP
thanx everyone
O and shes not for sale anymore...nobody wanted to buy her! O well shes a beauty, and were keeping her!

You really should take something for that "cough"... you don't sound well.
Oh, and I did give you my thoughts and advice on how to get there... I suggested a centrifugal SC... seriously.

My car puts down 442 RWHP (roughly 530 at the crank) with a Paxton S/C and the original cats are still installed. I have shorty headers and axle backs for mufflers. With the cats installed and a good tune...you should be able to pass emissions testing and still put down the numbers you are looking for.
According to the guys who actually did my performance work...my car should pass with no problem. I don't worry about it; the county I live in does not do emissions testing. But the county where these guys work has madatory emissions testing. Most of their customers need their cars to pass...so they need to build them to pass.
This link will take you to my car...pictures and all:

Good luck...I'm sure it can be done.

he he...+ 1 for the Whipple... I'm "only" at 441rwhp with the base tune from ST Motors. That's about 520 at the crank.
However, I agree with Don that there is more to running fast than pure HP numbers. I must also admit, though, that 500+ is a nice bragging number around the office. He he.

I dont think that 500 is unrealistic at all. @10psi on a Saleen twin screw I have no problem hitting 489 and I have driven the car like it was stolen for the last two years. Stock clutch too. Its not what makes the car fun to drive though. I find a the fact that all the**** tq is available so low that the car pulls like it has alot more cubes. I would say the question isnt so much how to get there but more about when you get there. I have driven centri cars before and big turbo cars and they seem to pull a lot later in the range and I didnt find it nearly as appealing. From a dyno standpoint and number bragging I would go turbo, centri, screw/roots etc but for sheer fun factor and ear to ear grin its the screw. In short, just about any power adder out there for these cars can get you into that 500hp range to the crank for sure and likely to the wheels, Id put the most effort into when you want the power though.

If you want your power at mid- high revs, go with a Procharger at 10-11 psi.
If you want your power down low with a strong mid and still a respectable top end pull go with a twin screw...Whipple, Kenny Bell, or Saleen at 10-11 lbs.
That auto won't hold up. It will need upgrading for sure at 500rwhp. You'd be better off at 7-8 psi on any of the listed blowers with a stock auto.
Get a dyno tune with any blower or turbo.

You really need to do like all the rest of us and do a search first and when you can't come up with the answer to your question then ask. I am more that willing tio help you but work a little for the info first like we did.

Between the humor and sarcasim, there are a lot of answers to your questions in here from everyone.
Besides the 500 hp area, what are you looking to do with the car? Everyday driver, autocross, quarter mile?
As for the 500 area at the wheels, I think with these motors most will tell you once you go over 420-430, you are pushing your luck with the stock internals.

Heh the kid's giving you lip service about his dad's car. I'm with you, why 500 hp and what kind of 500 hp. For what, drag racing, track, street car? What kind of power curve and how it gets to the pavement has all kinds of variations.
