5.3 N/A mill for my Bullitt.

Ever since I learned the FRPP Iron big bore 5.0 block is only 60 lb heavier than the aluminum factory block, the gears in my head have been turning.

My Bullitt is my daily companion, my year round daily driver, from -40 to 100 above, rain, snow, mud! It's been a fantastic car for the 2+ years I've been driving it - hard!

I've done the dreaming and dismissed so many FI options. Never could pull the trigger.

I like playing lego, so I'd get the block finished either by the vendor or locally, if someone has torque plates, honed to fit whatever pistons I choose. Get a stroker crank and rods - shoot for 11:1 CR. I'd need a new flywheel so I'd throw in a fresh clutch.

I'd probably even leave some power on the table (unheard of!) and use the Ford Racing Parts Direct top end kit. FRPP ported heads, the Hot Rod cams, and the new intake and TB. Use my factory CAI. I think the FRPP intake clears my strut brace. (?)

Using JBA LT headers, I'd fab up my own 2-1/2" H pipe (probably butcher the JBA Piece, add some cats) with a factory style crossover (mostly blocked! Reuse the stock cat back.

$10,000.00 with a dyno tune! Should have more torque than the new 5.0. Don't know about hp...

Don't take this wrong...but if I had 10K to spend I would do this http://site.brenspeed.com/b302/B302.pdf And put this on top on it. http://www.brenspeed.com/saleenstage1.html A whole lot more power and very reliable. But that is me I guess.

Tell me about it. It's not that I have $10k to spend, it's that I like the car, and don't like blowers that much. Heh.

There's a reason something like this is unique!

Hey no problem. I am a N/A guy myself. Check out this option...save the 60 lbs on the nose and stay with the aluminum block. You can't do any better than these guys.

And I contend that Ford missed the boat from 2005 to 2010 by not putting the 5.4 (all aluminum course) in 3v trim from the get go. It would have easily produced 50-70 more HP and and an equal amount of torque with little in the way of a weight penalty. Mods aside, that would have been kicking sand in the face of LS1/2 powered cars from the get go.

Has anybody actually built a 5.3 big bore out of a 3v block? Not sure I've seen that done yet. I know of a 5.3 that came from a teksid but that's it.

Cali HP Addict is running a 326 CI stroker in a 3V block. He has been doing it for 3-4 years. Largest displacement I know of. Not sure who's rotating assembly he is using.

I'd love to do this as a racing mill in a few years, probably stick to the Ford 5.0 for durability. I'd imagine this is a big job for a shop to do, what do you figure on price for the install work (don't think I'd ever take it on myself).

You might also take a look at this:

I keep coming back to this; 10,500 in standard configuration with some pretty decent included features (compression from 8.5-11.5:1, all aluminum 5.3 long block). 12,500 for the "Super-Mod" option; ported heads, cams, ARP studs, etc......doesn't seem like a horrible way to go for a stroker.

For NA set up that would have plenty of bite to with the bark.
