My city mileage hasn't changed much going to the 4.10's. Haven't had it out on the road much.

I've got a good read on my city mileage now, it's averaging 16.5, down from 18.2mpg.

Update:
Wednesday had the gears swapped out and all is fine now. Still a small whirring but I doubt you'd notice it if you didn't listen for it. Everything else works as advertised. Now to get the tune working....

Hi all: Nice discussion on the gear issue. Thinking about it for my GT Auto. Anybody know if it helps or hurts your quarter mile times? Assuming bone stock otherwise. Thank you. L.L.

Should improve your quarter mile by at least half a second (assuming you can get traction).

I agree... it should help quite a bit, but you're going to have to work on technique.... you'll be layin' a patch and gettin' nowhere fast if you don't work on slipping the clutch, find a good launch rpm, and shifting points...

I don't think people would do it if it hurts their time.

That's going to be my major problem, with an auto no clutch to slip, so I think I'm going to try a few things when I finally get to the track. One thing I've heard that works is instead of just slamming the gas down, ease it down. I think I'm going to leave the traction control on too and see how it does.

1/4 opens 19 march, 1/8 track opens 1 april.

Thanks for the tips. I will need to work on my auto too. Putting Traction Control on seem smart, since you will launch like a BOH. But what about laying some rubber to get the tires sticky? You think no biggie? BTW Blue, your car is friggin gorgeous. Thx, L.L.

What is involved in recalibrating the speedo in these cars? Can that be handled with the reflash?

Edit: nevermind. A little light reading tells me that's all it takes. Cool.

Mustangs are gonna have a drone. If you change your exhaust to something more free flowing your still gonna have the drone. I think its the gears making your noise though. I have heard people complain about motive gears whinning before. I have had ford racing gears in both my 91 and my 00 and neither set whinned at all.

Got the 4.10s in today, my first and only mod besides running 91 octane gas.

Wow

I got on it once on the way home from a stop. I know why gears are called the poor man's supercharger now. I can't wait to get to the track to really let it run.

I went with Motive, and have a small gear noise at speeds above 50mph, but not bad. What IS bad is the drone from the exhaust/motor at 2100 to about 2500? Only drove it home so I don't have specifics. I do know it's a deep bass sound that goes away if I speed up enough, or slow down. Haven't gotten the speedo calibrated yet so don't know what speed it's happening at but I know it's in the 60mph range as my wife was driving her car to pace me.

Dynosport in Lincoln called me and let me know the Predator should be in Wednesday and I'm driving down that night or Thursday for the install and associated tune/dyno time.

If the drone doesn't work itself out I guess I'll be looking at an axel back system to keep myself sane. I am assuming that new mufflers would take care of the droning problem. Is this correct?

Out the door cost was $580.

Definitely agree with the Dynamat as a "must have mod."

One last question as I never changed gears in my last Mustang.

If you have the gears changed does that void the warranty? .. or will the dealership install and let your current warranty stand.

Doubt that last part will be the reality but wanted to ask anyways.

Thanks for any guidance.

I talked with the dealership I bought mine at and they said as long as I let them install the gear it would not void my warranty. If I had it done else where it would void that part of the warranty

I also have an automatic but have some reservations about the 4.10 gears even though I already have them purchased and sitting on the floor. Has anyone had transmission shifting issues, either up or down, during daily driving around town? I don't believe WOT will be an issue but have heard some complaints about the transmission not downshifting into 1st gear until the vehicle almost comes to a complete stop. Can anyone confirm this? Can the DiabloSport Predator change the shifting characteristics to help this if it's even a real problem? The 4.10 gears and Steeda LCAs are my final performance mods for now and sure would appreciate anyone's first hand experience with an automatic & 4.10 gears.

Already installed mods: DiabloSport Predator with 93 octane C&L Custom Tune, C&L CAI, BF Goodrich G-Force T/As - 255/50/17 and MagnaFlow AxleBack exhaust.
