4:10 gears getting installed on 6/23

im kinda up in the air with gears myself. I still have an extended warranty to 50,000 miles and I dont intend to void it. I'm a everyday driver with the Mustang, about 25 miles a day or less. I want to boost up the Mustang off the line and what not. So if I can get the OK from my dealer to do gears, then i will do them, but my question, for me being an everyday driver and parting to the race track maybe once a month or so, should I go with 3.73s or 4.10s???

lower gears get you in the powerband faster, and keep you there through the gears. the car pulls better, and pulls quicker than it would if you had higher gears where you are waiting for the car to hit the powerband.
4.10's are fine for my daily driver.....

I'm going with 4.10's with the auto, they will be fine with the overdrive.
I turn o/d off around town, because the car seems to lug with o/d on and the 3.31's.
As for warranty issues, I doubt the dealer would even know the car had gears.

I'm not sure what you mean by inferior for everyday use? Inferior for getting better gas mileage? Yes. Inferior for ripping the tires loose and throwing me back in my seat under acceleration? I don't think so.
If I wanted better gas mileage and a highway cruiser, I would have bought an Accord. Besides, I own stock in Goodyear, so burning through tires is like paying myself!

I just sold my accord and ordered an '06 GT! Btw, I like your thinking!!! Maybe i should buy some goodyear stock, too...haha

Someone on here had Ford Racing 4:10s and swapped them for Motives (less expensive). He said they were even better than his Ford Racing set. I think it was 169STANG. But doesn't install make a huge differance. Your average run-of-the-mill shop might not give you the best outcome. Isn't this true???????

Unless you have defective gears, it's all in the installation (and the gears should be inspected carefully before they are installed so it's back to "it's all in the installation" again.

You bet I'll lose top end. I guess that will stop all my 140+ MPH runs on the freeway in bumper to bumper traffic. I want this mod for low end and stop light to stop light performance, just like my old one. I'm happy to lose top end to gain bottom end.

4.10 is a good ratio for street racing, for that matter 3.55 is a great ratio for street racing, I will save the mpg, and my warranty and stick with the factory setup for now.

Now, after changing to 4.10's, I can honestly say they work just fine. The mod motor is so much smoother than a push rod and the O/D 5th gear is great. Car is very quiet and easy going at 70 mph.

I had 4.10's in my AUTOMATIC GT for about 4 months, they felt great driving around town and it did have nice torque. My gas milage stinked and that was an issue for me. At the track, with street tires? No difference in times, it all came out in the wash. I couldn't hook up to save my life with that gear. Switched it back before I had the M/T's so I don't know what it would do with drag radials. For me, I'm happy with the stock gear, and when I go with the lower profile tires later it'll end up like I have a 3.55 in it anyway.
IF it wasn't a daily driver, I'd have left the 4.10 in and went slicks for the strip, but I'm not Gates and can't afford it.
With the C&L and Xcal2 it's plenty fast now
