4.10 Gears as a Daily Driver

You will have to adjust your rpm downward somewhat for a hard launch, but excess tire spin is not a given. With low profile tires, 285's, a hard launch is at 1800 with a very slight slippage. I would guess this would be pretty close with stock tires.

With the 4.10's and my Fuzion 255/50's I rarely get traction in 1st. Forget hooking up on a cold day.
From a roll in 2nd at 3500 rpms or so I can occasionally break them loose.
The other night, with some serious cold air pulling through the JLT, I went sideways yanking 3rd! Wintertime traction blows!
I don't think I would have a prayer at the track without DR's.

It seems like I am only in 1st gear for a moment before I shift to 2nd. I can't imagine running 4:10 gears BUT I'm seriously thinking about going for it.

Just do it. To be perfectly honest, I have 4.10's, CAI, tune, TBS....and my car feels like a dog. At first it feels fast, but then you get used to it and then you wished you'd gone even steeper...

OK a couple of stupid questions.
1. Will I need a retune?
2. How much will this screw up the speedo?

Yes, you will need a retune, which will fix your speedo.

Why would you need to retune? My Xcal is the basic model and I don't think you can correct the speedometer with this model. I wouldn't be changing the A/F ratio so how would the 4:10 gears change the current computer flash?
Oh well, I sent an email off to Brent and I'll see what he says!

The lower ratio will give fits to the torque management and you will go into putt home syndrome. Your tuner will fix you right up.

I can say that it never messed with mine over the weeks that it needed the retune, I even brought it to the track for plenty of full throttle fun.

I call BS on your torque managment causing a fail safe condition and here's why....

The code is a throttle issue, ......
I'm pretty sure I know what the issue is as alot of SCT dealers still don't have access to the electronic throttle adjustment they are leaving out a major part of the programming and causing some cars to go into limp mode when they upgrade gears.
thanks, Doug.

From what I read back then and now.... IT WAS A THROTTLE CONTROL ISSUE, NOT TORQUE MANAGEMENT.
Try linking a thread that would offer a credible backup to your original BS comment since you cant come up with something on your own. Or, you can admit to using the incorrect terms or whatever and I can let it go.
No foot in my mouth here until you can show me that Im wrong. You just dont make sense to me SixtySix, you stand behind someone that offers no answer or any real experience in the matter. Get bent for that leather thing.
Show me somebody that has had a torque management issue from moment 1 that followed the installation of a numerically higher gearset with no other mods. I havent seen a single issue come up anywhere besides to Mr. Mikem and after many many miles of driving with the gears in place.
A bad tune can cause whatever issue you want up to and including termination of an engine but it doesnt seem (in my experience) that by simply installing a numerically higher gearset is something thats going to confuse the computer during normal driving. The only thing that makes sense is reading the speed incorrectly on the speedo, this also incorrectly logs your drive miles for your trip and odometers. Further modifications and improper tunes can lead to the fail safe as with any mod and imcorrect tuning. Go figure.
Im only fighting for the fact that installing a different gearset BY ITSELF only needs a retune to correctly read the correct speed of the rear wheels. Its not even a tune, its more of a recalibration since only one figure needs to be modified. A change in the multiplication/division factor from 3.3 or 3.5 to 4.1.
