Blast to drive but it will effect your gas mileage. Its worth it to me since I do like to visit the drag strip from time to time.
IMO, if you mod your car for more power and to go very fast and dont race it on the track... youre a wasteful idiot. If you mod your car so you can race it on the street, youre a dangerous mother $%&#ing large guy in Austin Powers and should be shot before you endanger someone elses life. :P Im serious though.

Going to the track is wastful unless you're a well compensated professional race car driver. It wastes time, money, fuel. Money could better be spent treating children with pediatric aids, rebuilding the gulf New Orleans, sending care packages to our military... Time could be spend with our kids, volunteering at a local old age home, doing community outreach to gang bangers. Fuel is obviously a limited comodity and world wide increased consumptions not only raises the price, but has the potential to push us to a global war.
So by definition it's at least wasteful. But I assume you do it because ultimately it makes you happy. Probably the same reason that others put better performance components on our cars. It makes us happy.

I think you folks are getting a bit too uptight around here.
Hey, I have a great idea... lets either
A) petition Congress to pass a Bill to create a legal "street racing" holiday so we can all use our wasteful muscle and tuner cars. Every stop light becomes a Christmas Tree and drivers participate in Heads Up style racing. Innocents still exist on the roadway to add to the fun.
B) Lets continue to participate in that darn too boss stoplight racing, remember its only legal as long as you stay under the posted speed...ing limit.
C) doesnt exist since street racing is bad.
My opinion is pretty strict when it comes to street racing so if you dont like it you can go drive into a wall.
K THANKS BYE

Ummm.... you guys do know Eric was using the absurd to make a point that people mod cars to have fun, which is the exact same reason people track their cars--and no one (*cough*cleveland*cough*) should be calling it "wasteful," right?
I thought it was well put and quite funny.

Dumb question...
It seems like all of the 5.0L guys w/T-5 5 speeds upgrade to 3.73's.
How come '05 - '06 4.6L guys w/stock 5 speeds are saying 4.10's are the answer?
Different 1st gear ratio?
My first gear in my 06 GT doesn't feel like my first gear in my 87 GT (20 years ago, but I remember the 87 being quicker off the line).

5.0's sign off at 5k. I put 4.10's in my '86 (with ported 87+ heads)
05-06 cars have 1000 more usable rpm and a taller tire.
I say 4.30's are the answer for sticks, but I can't comment on the automatics.

I'm not real happy happy with my stock 3.55's (only been 5 days).
I am used to a Jeep w/4.56's and 35" tires.
3.73's or 4.10 are in my future....

If you don't like the 3.55s, I doubt you'll notice a difference in 3.73s. Go for the 4.10s!

You prolly won't be able to tell the gears were changed if you go with the 3.73's.
4.10's or 4.30's if you're going to spend the money IMO.
