When the gears are installed do I have to break them in for 500 miles and switch the oil again

If its going to worry you, do it, but I've never done that and had a problem. Changing it out is very easy.

But didn't they NOT get the backlash right the first time and charge you for their mistake? And mine is guaranteed for $150 labor, I know it's hard to find a good mechanic though.

$80 is small money. No cool but no big deal. 150 is a good deal. Is that for swapping just the ring and pinion or a complete rebuild less the clutch packs?

Just the swap, it was on my 2011 so it only had a few thousand miles. Guess that was a major factor!
