3.55 to 3.73, is it worth it?
I'm running out of mod to do the stang! the mod bug kills me, LOL.
considering I've maxed out the HP potential on my stock motor, I'm looking for an alternative performance addition to the stang.
Someone brought up the idea of gears. I'm running 3.55 gears, people have told me to go 3.73 or 4.10. and yet again its a back to back battle, some say 3.73 you won't feel any difference from 3.55, and 4.10's are way too much for a s/c manual.
help! what do you guys consider for a whipple s/c manual?

lots of people drive around with 4.10s with more power than what you have. Personally I would not step up to just a 3.73 because the small increase in ratio is not worth the cost of having gear noise from popping the cherry on your factory rear end. It will be more aggrivation than it's worth.

A whippled GT makes plenty of low end grunt since you get boost at low rpm's, so gearing won't really make a big difference like it would in a N/A car, or one with a turbo/centrifugal. I would suggest keeping the 3.55's and spending that money on a different mod that better compliments your whipple's low end grunt.

I'm from Jersey.....
I have no traction issues. Just pull off a little slow and I have a ton of suspension mods + sticky tires so I love driving this thing. I thought the car was quick before, but now it's just ridiculous. lol
Should have installed the 4.10's a long time ago. I had 3.90's, but they wined too much and had the 4.10's installed. You will not regret it.

Don't waste time and money on 3.73...4.10 all the way. Just make sure you get the computer changed (most tuners will do it) so that you know what they are pulling you over for!

I had 4.10s when my manual transmission went into the car. I think 4.10's are to much for a manual transmission supercharged car, at least for me anyway. I liked them with the automatic, but didn't like them with the manual. I went back down to 3.55s and I like them better. But relating to your question, I don't think a jump from 3.55 to 3.73 will be much noticeable. Probably about the biggest thing you'll notice is a slightly higher cruising RPM?

IMO if you are going to see some track time with your car then go with the 4.10. If not why spend the money to chance a problem. Have you considered go with a new Drive Shaft to reduce some weight??

How about a Livernois 298 stroker then turn up the boost. You could go with a set of their stage 3 heads but i wouldnt put the heads on boosted without a forged bottom end. No need to risk the heads on the stock bottom end.

I bought my 89 Mustang 5.0L LX brand new with 2.73 gears and within 60 days had 3.73's installed as the 2.73's were absolute garbage! Car was much more enjoyable to drive with 3.73's. If you want super low freeway cruising rpm's, get a steeper overdrive ratio which only affects high gear, not all gears!
