So if the offset is identical for both wheels, what I stated actually applies to the tire only.

But the 18"x9" rim will stick out 13mm more than the 17"x8" for a wheel with the same (45mm) offset.

Side note: notice that the 18"+tire will be ½% smaller in diameter than the 17"+tire

A few things to say here. First, the rims are 18x8 according to one of the manufacturers bidding on the job from FORD. Chrome may not be an option due to environmental concerns and a lot of automotive manufacturers are moving away from chrome because of this.
The picture posted 2 posts above needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Just because it says the tire diameter is 27" does not mean it is. You can get a 255/45 tire that is 27" and get a 255/45 tire by a different manufacturer that is 26.5" It can vary due to tread depth so that program is not 100% accurate, although it is the best one out there and that is how I chose my rims/tires.

If its an 8" rim, I'm going aftermarket.....Ford, give us 9" like the show car!

According to Motortrend february 2004 the "fanblade" wheels are 18x9

I'm sure they'll give an 18X9. Those manufacturers can make a simple mistake or not know, but assume the are 8" wide just because the 17's are too.
I just can't imagine them making that mistake, Ford can't be that dumb now can they, to do something like that.

So... Is the bottom line: "the wheels on the car shown as a 2006 model were 18"x9" with a presumed identical 45mm offset as on the 17" wheels"... but no one knows for sure ???
