12v source question...

Well I'm custom wiring up a Passport radar detector and am looking for the closest 12v source. I know there is one down in the center console and obviously on the back of the head unit. Does anyone know if there is one on the front dome light? If so, what color wire it is?

Thanks!

Yep. Search in the audio section for Sirius /XM installations. I and a bunch of others have the thing hardwired in up there with no problems at all... Without going back to check again, I think it is the blue /black stripe wire and ground to the roof with a metal screw and eyelet and you are done...

One of the black wires is a ground, don't use the eyelet. I can't remember if there is 1 or 2 black wires. Just try them out. I was the one that originally came up with the eyelet idea and read about somebody doing the black wire thing later.

The detector will turn on when you unlock the door and will shut off a half hour after you lock them

Well I pulled off the dome light. The only wire with that color combo is a black with dark blue stripe and is not it. I looked at your write up, but saw that the pictures weren't there anymore. Could you post them on this thread or PM them for me (if you still have them that is). I know I have a ligit ground, so that 12v cannot be it. It's off the harness that powers up the light assembly, so does anyone else know which wire it would be?

Thanks!

I hooked it up to the switched power under the steering wheel. That way, the radar detector automatically turns on when you turn the key. I never have to remember to turn it on or off. I used a 12v probe to find a good switched power source.

You wouldn't happen to know off the top of your head what the color of the wire was would you?

Thanks,
Brandon

On my 08 I have the comfort group with autodimming mirror and there is a 4 wire harness up there under the dome light for it, the wires were black, white, violet, green with orange stripe. The green with orange stripe is constant 12v power for the accessory homelink mirror. The violet/purple wire is keyed 12 power.

If you have the autodimming mirror it is there and unused like mine was if you have a standrard mirror it may not be there. I have an 07 diagram that I use that shows it.
