Yep, 4th gear about 6200rpm at the traps on a 26" tire.

When you say speed shift, what are we talking about here?

Didnt happen. Ran a 12.07 at 113, 1.5 sixty, struggling to get the car in gear at high RPM. Cooled down 45mins, tried again, would NOT go into 2nd without letting off a split second, ran a 12.1. Cooled off 45mins, tried again. Ran a 12.2, struggling to get the car in gear at high RPM.
This was a used OEM clutch/flywheel pair, gave me the summer worth of runs. But it either slips badly or won't go in gear now when racing. Normal street driving has some clutch slip, but I can get around.
Haven't heard anything good regarding aftermarket clutches for NA powered cars. Had two Spec2+ clutches and steel flywheels, both were junk. Been using "low mileage" OEM clutches/flywheels ever since.
Heard good things about the Spec 3+. Cheaper than a brand new Ford clutch and flywheel...anyone???

If you talk to well known racing shops, and I mean TALK to them, more often than not you eventually get redirected to the stock clutch (for my power levels, ~350hp NA). New ones work great, for a bit, but don't hold up for that long getting beat up at the track. I started racing my '05 in late '06, and alot through '07. The clutch went south that fall. Fought with two Spec2+ clutches in '09, and finally ditched it this year for used stock clutch/flywheel pairs. Like butter, the first two or three outings. Then they start to slip, and finally wont' engage at high rpms. Driving me nuts. Indirectly related question: aren't you a ford engineer?
I'm happy to spend $1000/year on a clutch that will hold up to abuse for a spring through fall season. Everything I've read on Specs says use the 3+. But it's not clear people are actually racing hard and frequently on that clutch...

Didn't notice the MGW in your above mod list. Was hoping it's improved brace design would help you on the 2nd gear shift. So many talk about the high rpm lockout condition. What about the brace guys bolt to the transmission?
Doesn't seem like you should be burning through clutches so quickly. Would the slicks transfer more wear to the clutch or is it more your style?

That is so tempting, and just be able to call it a day. But I think I'll hang on to the five speed. When the bottom end goes, I'll build a 400+ NA motor. When the trans goes, I'll get a built 3650 from American Powertrain, or maybe Liberty. I love rowing the gears, going for a PB or brackets.
Now, when get my 5.0, I'll get an auto since it will replace my daily driver (a '97 vert). Someday that will become a track car too I suppose...

If I were gonna road race, or never go to the drag strip, I'd get a manual transmission.

I'm assuming that this brace keeps the trans from twisting in an effort to send more torque rearward? I don't have a bunch of experience with chassis mods.....

Nope, it just limits the twisting effects when you go in and out of gear, making it easier to shift. The fact that the entire transmission doesn't spin around on the crankshaft is what sends the torque rearward.

Yup. My thoughts is it may help the 1-2 or especially the 2-3 shift. Perhaps the smoother shift would help guard against clutch wear?
