I would love to have a C5 Vette. Thought about getting one, but they are still too expensive ( the car and the insurance). Besides why drive a 5 year old Vette when you can have a new Mustang? I too have had multiple challenges by young guys in pickups. I think their feeling of power is challenged by a fast car. They think that since their truck has more horsepower it must be faster. They do not understand F=ma. I, of course, feel it is my responsibility to teach them some physics

I am the same way. While waiting the four months for my stang to come in, I test drove, and even made an offer on a 2001 Vette convertible, but I thought better of it, because it was way too much money for me to spend and have no warranty. I love vettes. Let's all not get snippy about our fellow American performance cars. Save that for the ricers! Besides, I have to love vettes. I am originally from Bowling Green, KY. Vette City, baby!

Ate-up a '03-'04 Vette coupe back in February... Driver Looked 40ish, rolling shortly after a stop light, he rev'd a lot while behind cars & in front of me... dodge around a car to a clear lane -I followed, waited 'til I was clear to get in the other lane. gained easily to edge by a nose before backing off @ about 110+
He may have had a passenger (couldn't tell looking through rear window), no passengers in my car. when we came to the next stop light, looked over and and noticed his
There were some high schoolers colecting money @ this light, which the Vette owner took extra time donating -giving me the impression he did not want to try again...

I am pretty sure a stock C5 does 0-60 in 4.8ish and the 1/4 mile in 13.5ish at around 108. It seems to me that equal drivers in the two cars should leave the vette as the victor...though not by much. It weighs less and has more hp. A vette is a great kill, but our stangs should not be expected to beat them. If a GT beats a C5, it is either b/c the GT driver is pretty good, or the vette driver is pretty bad (or senile, or has replacement knees, cataracts, etc. )

I'd have to agree with you Tim, especially considering I have had an old modded Eclipse edge me out... stupid rev. limiter :bang: Where's 2nd gear

I was going out with some friends, had my car full (4 people) and this vett, prob 01-04 (I don't know much about them) come up alongside me and paces me while reving. I just ignore him, cause I know I'm no match and I would just waste gas. He would not give up, for a good 10 minutes he just paced me, woudl gun it at lights, ect until I turned off. I guess he didn't realise I had a V6. I bet he would have bragged to his friends how he beat the new GT if we would have ran. Just thought it was interesting.
The next Vette I dust will be in your honor Roy! Stupid Vette's....

Yea, me too. Dang wife keeps complaining about the trunk though. I wish she wasn't so uptight.

So.. whats wrong with vettes? IMO - its great to see american performance cars alive and well in all brands! I'm jealous of the vettes HP.. Ford should have put 400 hp in the new stang.

As for the rev limiter -you could always buy a predator and turn them off... or bump them up a bit higher..

Just to clarify, I was not intending to knock vettes, just the gy who was attempting to race a v6 mustang.

If you think a Saleen S281 SC cost of $56,000 is faster then a Vet then read the new Sept. edition of Fast Fords and Mustangs. Page 56 says Saleen 1/4 mi in 12.5 at 110.4mph. A stock automatic Vet 1/4 mi in12.3 at 113.8, the 6 speeds are faster yet. I just got a C5 ZO6 Vet with 405 hp and turn legit 3.9's to 60 and 12.2's in the quarter. Iwas waiting for the Cobra but got tired of waiting plus all the crap about huge ADM's and who is on the list. I don't need that. :notnice: I drove the AT and MT Stangs. They are nice cars but I am real happy with what I got now.

I laugh hysterically nearly every morning. I have a nice long curve right by my house. The speed limit is 55 on the road and 45 around the corner. Nearly every morning that I pull out onto that drag, someone turns a corner, sees me, and pedals down. It's usually an SUV or a truck. So what do I do? I see how well that hunk of steel can handle! I step it up and run about 65-70 around the corner with ease. Them? They get lost in the dust - flopping around like a fish out of water. Shortly after the corner, there is a stop sign. IF they can catch back up by the stop sign... it's the last time I see em. :drive: Silly truck drivers! It's called a SPORTS CAR for a reason ya know!?! LOL!

The problem with most C5 Vettes is the axle ratio,
most automatics get something around 2.7
an optional 3.15 is available but hard to find,
the six speeds get 3.42 which should be able
to handle our mustangs, but i believe most
vette owners don't drive them well.
the newer vettes are so expensive that they are
mainly bought by non enthusiasts, who don't know
or care about the vette heritage.
thank goodness i am fortunate to have a mustang and a vette,
i just couldn't afford to have a wife and kids...

StangerX, I could not have said it better myself. I guess it reverse it would be like us trying to load all terrain vehicles in the trunk of our mustangs for a day in the bush. Mustangs are sports car and pick up trucks are just that pick up wood from Home Depot, Furnishing, move furniture, top soil etc.
