Ran a 5.0
Had my first Mustang Vs Mustang race today, against a '95 5.0. Pulled off from a light, nice and easy seeing if he wanted to run, had about a half a car length on him, just easing through the intersection, but he never got on it, so I shifted on into second and bogged down out of the power band. As soon as I did that he punces it, and he's still in first, so I nail it, but I'm way down low in the revs, and figure it's better to stay there than try to shift back down into first and risk a missed gear, and somehow keep ahead of him, and drag 2nd gear on up to almost red line and then ****** third. By this time, he is about 2 car lengths back. I only stay on 3rd for a few seconds, then let off.
He drives by easy and I give him a friendly wave, then pull up to him at the light to ask him what exhaust he has, 'cause it sounds really good. He says it's a Mac, and I ask him about the engine, and he tells me it's just a 302. But he's got some work done to it, because it sounds like it has at least no cats, headers, and a cam because the engine has a heavy lope. (It also had an exhaust leak). I say I like his tires, some new thick, meaty Kumho's, and he starts to explain how wider tires help you "grab the road better". I'm taken back by this MOTO (Master Of the Obvious) remark, and just simply agree with him.
Anyway, first real race, if you can call it that. More of a hard accel through 2nd gear. But interesting and fun none the less.
By the way:
Street racing is dangerous, :nono: This story is a work of fiction.
