So I got my Car & Driver in the mail the other day, and on the cover i see the 2007 GT500 & 2006 Corvette C6...they are putting them against eachother. Then I open up to the comparison, and i start reading...the next page, I saw that the GT500 came in SECOND, and the Vette came in first. Heres wut they said.
GT500:
Highs - 500 hp for less than 50 grand, light shifter, supple ride
Lows - Porky and nose heavy, boy-racer stripes, thin features list
The Verdict - A great Mustang that is priced with some very stiff competition.
Vette:
Highs - Neutral handling, strong brakes, refined demeanor
Lows - Inferior, slippery seats; tricky shifter
The Verdict - It's been two years since we first drove a C6, and we're still impressed.
Even though the mustang has 100 more hp than the Vette, it still lost....who thinks it should have won? I certainly do.

I would have loved to see the Mustang win, and given that it has better accelleration and more power, it's a shame they didn’t give it the win, but that's usually the way it is with car mags. I wish I could give more of an opinion, but having never dirven either, I'd just be talking out my a**.
What pisses me off though is the 'boy racer stripes' comment. What, it lost points because it has stripes? The fact that the car is even offered with factory stripes is pretty incredible. It makes no sense to drive the car and then comment on the optional stripes. If you don’t like stripes, then you order the car without 'em. That's like me ordering a car in red, and then telling people 'Well, it's nice, but I hate the color. It's too flashy'.

Why do you think the GT500 should have won? Have you driven either? It lost because it is almost 750 pounds heavier and nose heavy. That is a HUGE weight difference which has HUGE performance implications.
Don't believe me, look at the 1/4 mi. times.
The only nice things it had to say about the GT500 was it was cheap and rode well. Yet, they didn't like how it handled or looked and lost the quarter mile times.
However, they praised the Vette's handling, brakes and performance.
Considering it is a sports car and is supposed to perfrom well, it seems like a clear victory to me.
Having driven a C6, I can see what they are talking about. And having driven 4,000# cars before, I can see where the GT500 would loose.
But, if all you care about is the Shelby name and ego-stroking hp numbers, then I can see where you would pick the GT500.

Whaddya expect from a magazine that hates all things Ford, and mocks the Blue Oval every chance it gets? Case in point: this latest article Car and Driver did mocking the "2006 Ford Futura Wagon": Road Test Review: 2006 Ford Futura Sprint GT/A Wagon
That'll happen when the General signs the cheques....
Magazines are biased... just like people...
Don't believe everything you read.
And NEVER...EVER believe the times in a magazine...
Anyone with brain one knows the car is faster...

I think they should compare it to Chevys next most compatible performance oriented car (since the Mustang isn't REALLY a "Sports" car). That would be what...umm...the Limpala SS??
In some magazines we'd even lose that one I bet. Comparing the Corvette to ANYTHING Ford is tough because of the intended audience and price point. The Z06 is a great accomplishment no doubt as it does come close to the GT and is quite a distance less $. Thing is if your Chevy neighbor gets too close, theres always a pulley swap for your GT that will make all things right in the world.
Fact is Chevy doesn't really have anything that compares directly with the Mustang and vice versa.
