New Focus or New Mustang
Im 14, but I really want to start thinking about my first car. I really want a Mustang, however, my parents are jitterish on buying me a new Mustang. My other choice is a Focus or a Fusion. Can you help me out?
Well, if you're able to have any of those new cars as your first car, than you are luckier than most. It would be great to have a new Mustang GT when you turn 16, but I dont know if that's a good idea. New drivers arent mature or experienced enough to be very good drivers, and it's not very wise to put them in complete control of a 300 hp Mustang. I'm not saying you're going to crash it, but I doubt you'll find a person on these boards who thinks it's a great idea.
Anyway, if I counted out the Mustang, I'd probably take the Fusion. They're cool cars, and I wouldnt mind having one myself. The insurance would be A LOT cheaper with the Fusion than with the Mustang, and the Fusion's not a slow car anyway.

And thanks for the tip
Mustang would, of course, be a first choice. But given your grasp of the financial realities, insurance, etc., perhaps the Focus would be a good stepping stone before you step up to a Stang. By '09, the Focus should be on the newer "C" platform that the Mazda 3 and Volvo S40/50 use. Presumably there will be a sporty version available, either based on the MazdaSpeed 3 or perhaps the Euro ST, which uses the Volvo turbo L5 motor. Either of these should give plenty of punch and overall driving fun while you gain driving experience and save up for a Stang. Insurance ought to be a lot less too.
2009 is supposed to be the next year of a new Mustang which is being touted as "... more modern." in the car rags. I agree with Vermillion06 that a V6 Mustang would be just about right given the choices you mentioned. It, hopefully, will be stylish and the gas and insurance rates will not kill you either compared to the GT. Keep you eyes open though as four years is a long time for car models, there maybe be something way cool on the horizon ... or not.

I bought my 3rd mustang which was a 1999 MUstang GT when i was 18. So i see no reason why you couldn't hande a Mustang GT.
SO if your parents will spring for it congrates to you!

I bought mine last year when i was 17 and am somehow yet to crash or get a speeding ticket (knock on wood). You better make sure youve got plenty of time under the belt in all driving conditions and be very careful. Good luck.
