Mustang GT vs. E46 BMW M3
Not to take this off topic.........but at least compare apples to apples if BMW bashing is going on in here. My daily driver is a Stage IV 2003 Dinan 540i with basically the same bolt ons available for the new mustang. (CAI, gears, throttle body, MAF, engine and trans software... Its a 4.4l 32v V8. Until I put the 4.10's in my mustang, the 540 was definitely faster. Sure we're talking much more expensive, but cost isn't whats being debated here. On the highway, a N/A GT couldn't even keep up with me. BMW's definitely own the road at 1XX mph.
I'm getting my Saleen S/C on next month.....at least then there will be no question which is faster.
Where does all this animocity come from between mustang owners and BMW owners. I belong to a BMW forum as well... look in the kill section..there are several posts bashing Mustang owners, which I happily defended our honor as well.

hi guys, I went for a ride in my friends M3 2005, an incredible car for sure, it will kick my GT's butt any day, but I am a believer that a sport car/muscle car, has to be a little unforgiving, a little raw, and the bimmers, they have so many computer things, it kind of makes you forget you are driving a car, I enjoy cars that make the driver shine, those cars have electronic stabilization, you can change the way the gears do the change of gears with a button, I don't know, I would die to have a raw ford cobra with 500 horses, and a steering wheel, a stick 4 sp. or 5 sp. tops, and 3 pedals, and if it rain, I get wet, that is a pure breed sports car for me, and the mustang is closer to that than the M3, you can suck at driving, and the M3 will make you look good, but still, I enjoy simpler cars if I think of the car as a sports car.
also, I believe the shape of the mustang is more beautiful, the M3 is awesome, but it is a little boring, even the guy fromo Top Gear syas it... and they know about cars.
I would have a bimmer if I wanted to be a showoff, and if I could afford it iwthout a sweat.
now, do you people think a GT with a SC like a KB or whipple, with low pressure can win in the 1/4 mile to a brand new M3??
I still prefer an M3 against a vette(not the Z06, just a vette)
I guess if I would prefer an old A/C cobra with a big motor and raw pure muscle, I am a car romantic???
Happy new Year!!! 2007 is the year of james bond, we should all be talking about aston martins.

Hey bcshelby and anothermustangman I was actually answering his question about if a k/b or whippled mustang could keep up with a m3. I know how the m3 compares to a mustang guy's.

That being said, I'd LOVE to own HiRoller's 540i. By no means am I saying would I trade my Stang in for a 540 or an M3. But if i could have 2 sweet cars.. i'd keep my Mustang, and take a 540i, or more preferably an 00-03 M5 - or hell why not, the M3. i'd prefer the sedan and hp so i'd take the m5 over the m3. (as if $ is no factor
but i'm also one of them types who if was rich would have like 10 cars in their garage.. and right now i really want an F150 FX4 SuperCab, so yeah, i'm just about all over the place.. lol..
but to compare them is definitely apples and oranges b/c you'd have to add $20grand worth of modifications to one of them apples. they are both sweet cars.. but money unfornuately factors into my life a lot, so for value, i'd choose a Stang anyday, just as i did.
I'm a Mustang fan. pure and simple. I've contemplated owning all the generations that I have personally fallen in love with ..a '64.5-68, a Fox body, either one of the SN95's, and finally fixed my drought by purchasing my S197 new. I've been in love with the Stang forever now.

The prices of the 2 cars in Holland make them both "rich-people cars":
BMW M3 Coupé (E46): $108,000 (EUR 83,000)
Mustang GT Coupé (S197): $69,000 (EUR 53,000)
So, stop complaining over there!

hello! so glad this thread has lasted so long!
i know i stated that i used to own an E46 m3 and other pricey german cars.
i like my s197 stang better and now i plan to keep the mustang for a LONG LONG time and for a daily driver, im gonna lease a fusion or hyundai to beat on.
In the past the E46 m3 was too pricey to have 2 cars!
in further comparison, in NYC area, i been getting more attention in my Mustang than i ever did in my m3. so far, i like the off line the line feel better because of the responsiveness of the V8.
sure, the m3 is probably a better performance car stock form...but who cares!! i like the raw mustang NO FRILLS feel better
