BMW M3 vs 05 GT

A coworker who has a manual 2003 BMW M3 thinks he can take my 05 GT (automatic).

Who do you think will win?

It's a driver's race. Mustang has more horses from what i understand , but an M3 is lighter and picks up faster.

mustang had more horses?

M3...333hp
mustang...300hp.

stock to stock the M3 will win. its a proven very low 13 sec car.

unless he can't drive...then you could still take him.

More than likely a driver's race. Stock M3's run 13.5's all day with decent drivers.

The coworker claims he can shift without a clutch - except starting.

Agreed on the driver's race.

From the Dutch BMW website:

BMW M3:
343 HP, 270 lb.ft. torque
3460 lbs weight
0-60 mph: 5.2 sec

The coworker claims he can shift without a clutch - except starting.
You can do the same with your automatic.

M3 - $55,000
Mustang GT - $29,000

Perhaps after he MAYBE beats you by perhaps a fender, you can buy him drinks all day with the $26,000 you'll have that he lacks.

That's because here in Europe the 1/4 mile racing is extremely rare and all EU car manufacturers give the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) numbers.

I realized that back in '05 Ford's website advertised a 0-60 mph time of 5.1 sec for the manual GT, now it's down to 4.9 sec. for the '07 GT. How come?

Actually Ford is referencing the R&T(April/05) review in their 2007 brochure. I own an 07 and I would like to think that it's quicker, however, the 07s are heavier to support the GT500 platform, so common sense would indicate that the 05 should be quicker. BUT if Ford is printing it, it must be true...lol

P.S. The 0-60 comment was made for Knight. An inside joke from another thread. I agree- more people identify with 0-60 than 1/4.

On the straight, M3 by a little.

Throw in some backroad curves, M3 by a lot.

SteelTownStang, what did they (Ford) do to the "platform" in '07 to make it weigh more?

Why would he shift without the clutch? Not only is it slower than powershifting, it's also bad on your synchros.

I guess there''s only one way to settle this.

BTW, his M3 is bone stock, my 05 GT is not.

My mods:

3.73 gears.
JLT CAI with Bamachips 91 octane Race Tune
Steeda UDP

I might have a chance I think.

oh well with those mods i'm pretty confident you'll win.

just outta curiousity why did you upgrade to 3.73's..seems like it wouldn't be worth the trouble of moving from 3.55's
