I have yet to see a thread on this board where a magazine or show didn't pick a mustang and people went "yeah I can see why they picked like they did."
A few people on this board can sit back and say that. I wont name names..but they are the crowd for the most part that frequents the General section with straglers from other sections. But for the most part if a mustang isn't picked the magazine/show writers/hosts are slammed even if the info is dead on and valid (this is true of other specialty boards as well. not just here). The arguments range from they are idiots to well the X car has a crappy interior and I had one that fell apart.

Who cares in the long run. I've been reading these Challenger threads here and with a few exceptions..No one is even close to level headed about it. I've heald back commenting on these threads but my rant would probably be similar to the chap that is leaving the board. Minus the leaving part.

YEs it's a public board and yes you are more than welcome to voice your opinions and bench race all you like but man try to have a little perspective. The mustang is not by any stretch the end all be all of cars.
There are loads of cars that will trounce a mustang in even catagory and loads that will lose to the car. I've owned three of them now and am a fan of them.. Rabid fan no. I am a rabid fan of cars in general as I expect others are like Rhumb or Evil Capri and the others.

Anyway I'll go put on my silver fire suit now and expect the worst of flaming to commence.

yeah I think it was a case of emotions getting the better of him..I've been guilty of this as well and try to take a step back before i post to avoid that kind of stuff

Wow! It took me 25 mins. to read this thread, but well worth it!! Oh yeah I like the Challenger to, it's great looking but a heavy monster but would take a GT500 over it any day!!

Would I buy a Challenger SRT8? Not for the ADM they're gonna want, but I wouldn't kick it out of bed either.
Would I buy a GT500, hell yeah, but can't afford it.
Given both were same price, I'd take the GT500. Thats just my opinion. Motor whine is fine by me. Plus I want a genuine original, not some thrown together pony car on a shortened Charger frame.

Dodge built my 1996 hunk of crap pickup that was so bad I will never, ever make the mistake of buying from them again. And while I know Ford owners have had problems, I'm going on 8 Fords and no problems. ('91 Ranger, '94 Escort, '99 F-250, '00 Expedition, '02 F-250, '06 F-150, '07 Expedition, '07 Mustang) Only complaint is the Escort had a whopping 88hp. But I did know that when I bought it.

My previous comments were really directed at Motor Trend and their treatment, or lack of attention to the old standby, the F series Fords. Chevy puts a new model out, truck of the year. Toyota puts a new model out, truck of the year. Honda, oh yeah, freakin Honda craps a terd of a truck and yeah you guessed it truck of the year. Nothing compares to my 2006 F-150, ( and yes I've owned Chevy and Dodge recently) I don't know how it could be better. My wife subscribes to Motor Trend free through her work, I read it the crapper where it belongs.

Wow Burningman I agree on something I love the Challenger too. And that in no way makes me any less of a Mustang fan. As I said on another site, it's not a zero-sum game. i.e. it's not an either or proposition.

The key idea here is that liking something OTHER than a Mustang does NOT make you less of a Mustang fan, or a traitor, or anything other than a car enthusiast who can appreciate more than one car, or one style of car. The ONLY thing that really annoys me about visiting this section of the forum is that there are a lot of people who think that anything that isn't made by Ford is complete crap. And it isn't just the Mustang forum. If you go to a Nissan forum, you're going to see the same thing happening, same with with Hondas or Toyotas or Chevys. I wish that everyone would just try to exhibit a little open-mindedness.

I reread all 4 pages of this thread and no one said that they hated the Challenger or that it was crap. Most everyone was questioning the Motor Trend article and their editorial policies.

It was all civil until "HalJordan" showed up to point out our "self esteem" issues which escalated into calling people idiots and losers when people did not agree with him.

I have never said I hated the Challenger, its good looking, but big, heavy, and expensive. I like Mustangs better. And this is coming from a former dyed-in-the-wool Mopar man, who also happens to be a Nissan fan.

The Challenger is a cool car. No doubt about it. May be the best looking mass-production Dodge ever (even though it actually looks more like a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda than a Challenger).

I look forward to the Challenger v. Camaro v. Mustang articles that will appear about this time next year. We should enjoy this little muscle car renaissance while it lasts; with gas prices going the way they are, we will almost certainly never pass this way again -- at least not with all three cars in the classic v8-powered, rear-wheel drive configuration.

We're lucky to have these cars to argue over, gentlemen.

You're the first person I've seen pick up on (or at least mention) the fact that the car looks more like a Barracuda. Funny, my first car was a '69 Mustang fastback and my second was a '70 'Cuda. Loved them both.
I'm looking forward to test driving a Challenger. Everything I've read indicates that the car is very nice. Not a hard-edged racer but a very well though out package aimed squarely at the boomers who grew up with the original (or at least wanting one). I think they will sort out the model line better once all variants are on the market.

They DID that? The 'Truck' that has the spare mounted so you have to get to it THROUGH the top of the bed... and if you are carrying a load of something heavy back there when you get a flat..... umm...... you are F-ed?

Get used to it. Honda mearly beat everyone else to the punch. Look for the Big-3 to offer unibody trucks soon. As an example, I hear Ford is well along on final designs of a Ridgeline-esque F-150 and they have already announced the Explorer is going unibody. face it, fuel prices are going to mandate significant changes in vehicle design.

Ford would be shooting themselves in the foot making a unibody F150. People actually need to use them for work uses.

Ridgelines are not build to withstand truck duty, therefore shouldn't be called a truck.

A unibody would be even crappier then the frame offered in the Tundra.
