Jags (or Bimmers either) have never really been stoplight racers but rather, long distance, high speed touring cars, trading off out of the hole punch for long-legged extended high speed runs through the mountains or across the continent.
My dad's ol' E-Type V12 is a bit leisurely right off the line but just keeps accelerating effortlessly like an airliner taking off, seemingly just as comfortable at 120 as at 20, more so actually.
Just a different approach to speed, really.

I had the chance to race my '05 GT against a previous generation XK8 and a 645i in 2005, when my car was still bone stock:

Not to mention the sound and smoothness. For anyone who has heard a V12 with a good exhaust system, an uncanny symphony of silken refinement and commanding raw power. A foreboding Grizzly growl at idle, a ferocious howl in the midrange and a spine tingling wail of the Valkeries at redline ... must be heard to believe.
The ethereal, turbine smoothness and Kansas plains power/torque curve are something to be experienced, the surreal smoothness gives a real iron fist in a velvet glove demeanor.
Granted an old V-12 E-Type certainly doesn't have modern day power or acceleration levels, though they are healthy[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiEydwZoXU0], but often it's not only how fast a car goes, but how a car goes fast that really matters.
And that view over that long hood at 120mph down beautiful country highway...[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrKjUt80nsI]

I'd take an Aston over either of those anyday. The Jag dealer across the street always has people hot ******* XK's and they don't really have much go-juice, sound good trying though. Jag and Land Rover do manage to get pretty decent power out of the Ford T-bird/LS motor though. Our owner bought an XK for his summer home but sold it a few months later.
