I lost to a Miata
not in a race but in this weekends show.....a muscle car and hot rod show, tough competition but figured I had a good chance of winning in the "best daily driver" category, it wouldve been down to mine, 2 stock C5s, a tricked "lowrider" themed civic and 16 identical stock Mazda Miatas and one of them won....go figure, anyway here are the pics....

see if you can "Find Surfn" he managed to work himself and his dog into almost every shot, even into reflections.....lol.

*phew* i was bout to not even read and say "WHAT THE heck WAS IN IT?!" lol. actually, a 5.0 Miata has always appealed tome... hehehe
then i read the friggin post lol.
nice pics btw

I wasnt so pissed about losing, more so that a Miata won, stock and the base model, not a Monster Miata, I figured if I was going to lose it wouldve been to one of the vettes then I would've been bumbed and still thought I got shafted since they were also stock but at least its an American Sports car, or even less bitter about losing to the Honda, it actually had a lot of stuff done, not my taste and very ricer IMO but at least it wasnt stock......I think its because the Mazda club of San Diego bothered to make a strong showing, by the way SSM members we couldve won best club participation, we have more members, where were you guys???? oh well whatever.....sheesh.
Ever since the first time I laid eyes on a Miata, they looked like cheap little girl cars and have not liked them since. I know they have a HUGE following and just cant help but wonder why, whats the appeal? The wierdest part is 90% of the people I have seen driving them are 50-60 year old men, when the car looks like it was purpose built to appeal to spoiled high school girls.
How do stock vehicles win anything at car shows? Wonder if they pick the one with the nicest wash and wax job?

actually all of the miatas there were driven by 50+ year old men and there annoying Misses Crabitz sounding and controlling wives. the real sad part is that in the long line of cars, mine was towards the end as were the Miatas and actually mine was followed only by a trick Ford pickup and then the row of Miatas and as people reached my car and the truck they would stop and look down the street at all the miatas and just turn around and say "there just miatas down there" and walk back the way they came, no one and I mean no one went to even look at one, so I dont know how they would win at a show, especially at a Muscle car and Hot Rod show, go figure.
and my car definately had a better wash, wax and shine then any of those Mazdas. This is the first and only (and hopefully last) time I wish that my car wouldve lost to a Vette.

If the Miata that won is the black "Z8 wannabe" on your pictures, it has nothing stock at all, at least externally.
But it is very ugly IMO, and I'm not biased at all I've driven one for the past 5 years and still love these cars.
As for it being a girly-man car, that's one of those "girls drive V6" comments... To me like the Mustang it's a fun car with a high bang for buck factor, puts a smile on the driver face with top down, nothing wrong with that.
But yes, can't figure out why someone woud prefer that to your car

Anyway, your always a winner in OUR eyes...

Some of these local car shows can get pretty silly when it comes to handing out the iron. Was it a popular vote show? Bet they all brought their families and stuffed the ballot box! Your pictures show some beautiful cars like yours and the 69 Mach I. And a bone stock Miata wins the "Hot Rod" show.

no its not the one that won, the one that won was stock, the black one was the only one that wasnt and I probably would be less irritated if I had lost to that, because at least it has some kind of modifications

there was a peoples choice award but only those who entered a car could vote, and the rest of the categories including the "best daily driver" were judged

I actually thought they were ok...I drove one and found they are very fun to drive. Not Muscle car fun....more like "MG fun"....but with japanese reliability. That's where the appeal is....lightweight, handles like a go-kart, reliable as a honda...and not too expensive. That's the EXACT reason Pontiac and Saturn are coming out with their 2 seat 4 banger convertible next year....and remember those 50-60 year olds represent the LARGEST demographic group in the US....not us 20-40 year old steely-eyed muscle car fanatics...
My .02 worth (which if it was gas would be .89 cents per thought now)

No I don't think thats the same at all, and I would never belittle anyone over their choice in a car. I certainly didn't mean it that way. But with all due respect, they just look feminine to me and as I stated in my comment, I don't get it. If you dig it, who cares what I or anyone else thinks about it. Just my opinion, sorry for offense.

We're cool
It certainly doesn't look very agressive
