First Loss
#1
Came at the hands of a 1999 Cobra Vert.
He pulled up to me and said "wanna run them up to 50?". It was a 45 zone so nothing crazy, just a test. I said sure.
When the light turned we both smoked the tires but the dreaded tire hop kicked in for me and I lost some momentum. He got a 1/4 car lead on me and kept it the whole way.
Next light he said that he had gears, and a custom exhaust. If I had a better launch I think that we might have been even if not a win for me. His exhaust sounded awesome though, always love the sound of those Cobra's no matter what year.
This really makes me want my C&L intake and tune and some suspension upgrades.
Oh well, lesson learned.

I'll agree with that one..... :bang:
Always get a little jumpy when your actually up against someone. Easy to get those good launches when you are just practicing with no challenge.

I have purchased the Steeda LCA's, they are not installed yet. I have not experiance the wheel hop thing yet...I did my first burnout yesterday, launched it at 4k, it went right to the rev limiter much quicker than I thought, banged second, again right to the rev limiter...I did not feel or hear anything resembling wheel hop, I am trying to determine if I even need the LCA's , Can some tell me how to produce the wheel hop so I can determine to sell or keep the LCA's. If I had my choice, I would rather not have them because I dont want to increase noise or comprimise the ride. I purchased the Steeda street/ race LCA's.

No wheel hop here either. I've had some wheel spin though, but not much.
You just have to launch at the right RPM and then let the engine do the work. It's better to launch low and make the car pull more from the start, than to launch too high and have your wheels spinning.
Instead of LCA's, I'd recommend getting some 4.10 gears and launching a little lower with them to avoid tire hop/spin. Afterall, if you are gonna race (whether at the track or on the street), you might as well have racing gears, right?
I can pretty much guarantee that with 4.10's and a halfway decent start, you would have taken even a modded '99 Cobra. I raced a '98 or '99 Cobra months back and spanked him from a stop. I had at least 3-4 car lengths before we got to 50-60. Stock gears and driving an auto.

When you rev really high and dump the clutch you won't get wheel hop, you'll just spin tires a bit till they catch. When I'm at the track and try to launch at about 2000 - 2500 RPM for max traction, I tend to get some hop. It seems that my best launch RPM is about 3000 - 3500. I'm probably going to get some LCAs and see if this corrects the problem.

Tonight I launched at 2000, 2500, and 3000...NO HOP AT ALL! when I shifted to 2nd, it seemed to fall on its face a bit, and I dont think I hit the rev limiter

That's happened to me several times Dave and I know for a fact I didn't hit the limiter.

I've had the "fall on it's face" happen one time in third, it was weird, just sort of shut off for a second, and it wasn't at the redline. I was pulling away from an 05 GTO on an on ramp, so it came at a really bad time. I still pulled away from him, though, but I had the jump on him at the turn on to the ramp.
Anyway, I installed the BMR LCA's. Wheel hop is 95% gone. Before the install, I was out running with the G-Tech one morning. On one run, I got some serious wheel hop, but it ended up being my best run anyway. So I'm looking to see if less hop will net any gains next time.
