Doors blown off by a WRX
Here's my take as a former WRX owner (with turboback exhaust and reflash). A stock WRX will get destroyed by a stock GT. A nicely modded WRX (turboback exhaust and reflash) will be just about even with a stock GT. A stock WRX STi will be just about even with a GT. A nicely modded WRX STi (again, turboback and reflash) will be a little faster than a stock GT up to about 100mph, then the GT will take over. A four-banger, even turboed, still has its limits--and the stock Sti turbo runs out of steam up high.
What about a lightly modded GT? I have a JLT intake/93octane tune and I worked over a friend of mine's WRX STi (exhaust upgrade only).
So, for that WRX to walk you the way it sounds, he was definitely running an upgraded turbo/injectors/intercooler with a good tune. From a dig you might have stood a chance (yes, our GT's actually hook as well as the all-wheel drive). Or even a fair rolling start--you would have a chance to get the jump before that pig of a turbo spools up.
The sad part about upgrading the turbo in the WRX (or STi) is that you now have a car that has monster turbo lag and is no longer fun to drive in the twisties or even around town. And with the stock glass tranny, it is a time bomb at the strip. WRX's and STi's are no joke, though, and I *never* underestimate them. Any questions about why I got rid of mine, though?

just dont get in a collision with a plastic car =p
I ran an STI at the track. I beat him down the track, but he had about a .1 better ET. I jumped him at the light, even with my crappy R.T. and had a car length on him, but his AWD made up for it pretty quick and we were even until about 80. After that, I pulled away slowly up until the 1/4 mile mark where I was a little ahead. I was surprised he beat me in ET, it looked like I won, but not according to the time slips. Could have been the staging, him sleeping at the tree, etc.

i would not consider an STI to be rice, or even a lancer evo mr, or evo 8
they are kinda ugly but definately fast cars that are worthy opponents. i save the term rice for the guy with the 4 door, front wheel drive 4 banger with an erector set screwed to the trunk, a huge fart can, and flourescent lights glued under the car.... and usually they sound like a scooter or a weedeater when they fly by you as you are cruising.....
THATS RICE. is it an offensive term? Yes. do they deserve to be called Ricers? Yes.

my $.02

What is a "ricer"?
-Any bone stock ride that is covered in stickers from companies that have nothing to do with that ride is a Ricer.
- Any ride with a paint job that looks like something Walt Disney threw-up is a Ricer.
- Any ride with more bondo than sheet metal is a Ricer.
- Any ride with undercarriage lighting is a Ricer.
- Any ride with neon ANYWHERE is a Ricer (beer trucks omitted).
- Any ride with wheels 3 sizes too small or too large is a Ricer.
- Fartpipe coffee can exhaust? Ricer.
- "R" Badges? Ricer.
- Monster tach in a mechanically stock vehicle? Ricer.
- Ground effects bought at Home Depot? Ricer.
- Fake scoops mounted where even real scoops would serve no purpose? Ricer.
- A spoiler that more resembles a picnic basket handle? Ricer.
- Aviation parts mounted "for better traction"? Ricer.
- Defrost ducts painted with latex paint to match the color of the sticker on the brake pads? Ricer.
A Ricer doesn't have to be an Import. There are plenty of Riced-out Domestics on the road.
