From a rolling start, the guy hit it from behind me, and blew by me. Even though I jumped on it as hard as I could, he was long gone. Now, I know he was rolling already and accelerating, but still, I didn't have a chance...

Those stupid cars are FAST.

I doubt even my Buick [a definite great straight line accelerator] would have had a chance in this case.

I've taken a WRX before ..

Maybe his was modded out the wazoo, because you shouldn't have been blown away like you describe.

WRX must have been modded, cause he shouldnt have beat you bad, even from a roll. Probably had a turbo upgrade or something, power goes up pretty quick.

Pretty much takes a stage 3 WRX to pull on an 05 GT.

There was a WRX at the 1/4 track that was doing low 12's high 11's. Had upgrades but still, that's insane.

A WRX TSI has 300 horsepower and weighs around 3,000 lbs. So if he was rolling and had the turbo spooled up, it would be tough to beat him with a stock Mustang GT.

Never underestimate a turbo ricer. It doesn't take much for them to be stupid quick.

Now go out start your car, listen to that exhaust note and feel good that you own a Mustang GT!

The guy was already accelerating at the time you jumped on it?

If so, then no contest!!!! At least in my book.

If someone wants to truely test their car vs. another, they should both either start at the same rolling speed or from a stop.

On a second note. A lot of the Subi guys around here de-badge their cars which makes telling an STI from a normal WRX nearly impossible. I even know of a guy who has an STI, which is de-badged, and has the WRX hood scoop on it, which is smaller.

Anyways fact of the matter is it will take a heavily modded WRX to keep up with a stock GT, the STI will beat a stock GT off the line (AWD+300hp), but they don't pull nearly as hard at higher speeds.

And last but not least,

As ugly as the STI is, you gotta respect them.

Import does not equal ricer. One of my best friends has a 240sx which is awaiting an SR20 engine swap. He has a full suspension upgrade, tein to be exact. His car could probably outhandle mine. Once he gets his engine, and does a few ECU upgrades he will be right along with me. You need to learn to respect other cars ability. You don't have to like them, but that doesn't mean you talk smack and call them ricers. I've lost a race to what seemed, and probably was a stock WRX, he got a headstart and I blew the launch hard. Now was I going to complain and make excuses and call him a ricer, no, I was going to give him a thumbs up for winning.

Sorry if I offended, Jonathon. Not at all my intention. I've owned several fine "imports" with my '90 Eclipse Turbo and my '86 VW GTI being two of the best cars I've ever owned. Because i used the term "ricer" doesn't mean I don't respect the abilities of other car makers. Quite the contrary, actually. I was simply trying to make the guy feel better after getting beat. And we all get beat at some point.

Yes, Ricer is technically a derogatory comment. So, if you don't want to offend anyone, you could avoid using it. I too have respect for lots of Japanese imports. In fact I own a 94 Civic. I'm not telling you to accept the term ricer, just ignore others (including me) that use the term. If you really feel the need, do a search on TMS for the word "ricer" and send and email to each and every offending person. This exercise will surely keep you busy for a while.

It's possible. My bone stock STi ran 13.12-13.20's last June at 800 ft elevation and a temp of 80° outside. There were two '05 GT's at the track that day, but all they could muster was 14.00-14.50's. Obviously, a '05-'06 GT should be quicker than that, but I am not aware of what a good time for a stock GT is. There was also a Mach 1 with a few mods (gears, drag radials, CAI, x-pipe, catback) running consistant 13.50's. As far as my car, I am no pro-driver and I tend to launch a little on the gentle side to prevent damaging anything since it is my daily driver.

As far as your situation, depends on how much of a jump he got. If he got a good jump, then yes, it wasn't really a fair comparison. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

FYI: I have a video of a 13.20 run I made at night back in the fall (cooler temps, but I messed up a bit on my launch.....otherwise, I might of had my fastest time yet). If you guys would like to see it, let me know and I'll post up the link to it.

To "the sleeper"

You're offended by the term ricer, I'm offended by your inability to spell derogatory. I guess we can both get over it.

All I was trying to say was it wasn't right to call the guy a ricer. The term belongs to a certain type and/or group of people.
