Because I have an automatic and the stock gears are 3.3. The manual 05/06 GT stock gears are 3.55.

So I went from 3.3 to 3.73.

To be a little more specific than my new friend, Knight, who is correct, all 2007 Mustangs have reinforced bodies because of the GT500's extra power and torque. Selected panels are now thicker gauge steel, and extra welds have been placed on key seams and joints to improve rigidity. In theory, the 2007 should provide and slightly better ride with less of the notorious sqeeks. However, with the aforementioned bonuses of a stiffer car comes the added weight of about 100 lbs. Not really a big deal unless your're a "tracker".

M3 - Shifting w/o using the clutch. Easy. He has the manual trans with the selectomatic like the F1 cars and others have. With hands on the wheel, he can flick a tab with his fingers for up and down shifts w/o out even moving a toe. I guess you could call it a semi-automatic ...

Where did you get the information about 100lbs of added weight? My recollection from some source was that it was more 30 lbs.

Perhaps after he MAYBE beats you by perhaps a fender, you can buy him drinks all day with the $26,000 you'll have that he lacks.

So true

I said about 100 lbs. 05/06 GT Manual BCW(Base Curb Weight) is 3,483. 07 GT Manual BCW is 3,570. Simple subtraction equals 87 lbs. It may be a pound or two either way based on options, but it's about 100 lbs. What I just discovered by researching the aforementioned information is that an automatic weights 35 lbs more than a 5-speed... and a GT weights 132 lbs more than a V6.

Where did you see the 3570 figure? Thanks!

Maybe in a straight line a Mustang GT could compete with the M3...
But if there's any curve involved in this race, the M3 will feel more like a UFO while the Mustang GT like a Boeing 747: it could run circles around it.
Sure it costs more (48.9K), but it's one hell of a car...it deserves respect...
PS: I own a Mustang GT and I owned two BMW M3's, including the model now on sale (3.2L 333hp...mine had 343, as it was in Europe and the M3 there has 10 hp more than the US model), I know what I am talking about...

Agreed with pretty much everyone here. Keep it straight and it should be pretty close.

Gotta love those M3s though, fast, amazing handling, and comfortable to boot.

your Mustang will take the M3 at start and possibly outrun it...although i dont even know the size of my block in my daily driver 330i because havent cared enough to look it up. You would win with your mods imo.

Some of the M3's have a crazy thing called "Launch Mode". It's pretty **** sweet.
