OK, so here's the scenario:

I was out and about an hour ago, and I pulled up to a red light on one of the local 2-lane roads around here.
I was in the left lane, and a silver GTI VR6 pulled up alongside of me.
I took notice of it because, well, that's what I do now that I am driving my Bettie Page. Even though I'm not necessarily looking to street race, per se, I am constantly finding myself eyeing up the "competition."
At any rate, after a quick glance at the GTI, I returned my attention to the light.
The guy driving the GTI didn't rev at me, so I had no reason to assume he wanted to race.
But all of a sudden, when that light turned green, he punched it.
Now, I don't go around looking for races, but I couldn't let this one go.
So I mashed the accelerator.
Since this guy just took off out of the blue, I had to play catch up, but as I soon found out, this was quite an easy task.
I caught up with—and took him—while still in 2nd, but then I redlined just before shifting to 3rd, and the engine dropped out for a split second.
I thought to myself, "Oops."
This momentary loss of power caused me to drop back just behind his front wheels, but as soon as I regained power, I slammed it into 3rd.
Revving so high at that point caused my tires to spin wildly, and TCS activated.
As soon as my tires caught a grip, Bettie lunged forward with gusto, and I quickly made mince meat out of the People's Car.
Once I was about 5 car lengths ahead (doing about 110, or thereabouts), I slowed down a bit, got in the right-hand lane (he had changed lanes too), and waited for him to catch up.
Being the sportsman that I am, I rolled down the window, stuck out my arm, and gave him one of these ---->
I let him pass me, and as I did, I saw that this kid was about 18ish (I'm 32) and he had his girlfriend riding shotgun.
Interestingly enough, her face looked like this ----> as she looked over at me, almost as if she was thinking to herself, "Nice work. You spanked my retard boyfriend who was trying to show off...again."

I heart my car.

Just be careful: AACounty has a ton of unmarked vehicles ranging from SUVs to Grand Prixs to Intrepids. Howard County has already picked up at least two black 2006 Mustang GTs!! They have the windows tinted and you can't see the trooper clearly. If it's stoplight to stoplight, I USUALLY let the other guy have his fun and take my time. If I don't see lights, I know I'm cool the next round...

Yeah, I've actually seen a few of those unmarked SUVs and Intrepids over the past year.
Really freaked me out when I saw them!
And I didn't know that HoCo acquired a couple of Stangs.
It's getting harder and harder to be a road menace these days!!
Thanks for the heads up, John.
