So what do you think the best recent performance truck is? There have been quite a few awesone trucks over the past 15 or 20 years, including the Ford Lightning (older and newer versions), Dodge Ram SRT-10, Silverado SS, GMC's Syclone and Typhoon, and others. Being a Ford guy, I think i have to go with the last generation Lightnings, but the early 90s GMCs were pretty cool too. What do you think?

Well being a Ford guy my favorite would be the last gen of the Lightning's of course. Lots of potential for those trucks.
But the Syclone's and the Typhoon's are nothing to take lightly. I actually had the opportunity to drive a Syclone about two years ago. Simply amazing. The power output is just stunning out of the 4.3 V6. Coupled with the AWD, it's quite a fun ride.
Here's a link to them.

92 Typhoon

the syclone is based on a compact pikup though, while the lightning is a full-size. Pretty impressive, im sure id get stomped by one.

I forgot about the early 1990s chevy 454SS. the idea that they put an actual 454 ci engine in the 1500 truck was pretty incredible, but the performance, unfortunately, was really disapointing. i think in its first year, it only made 230 hp, and took around 16 seconds to finish the 1/4 mile. plus, the only trans was a 3-sp auto. what a terrible way to execute a cool concept.

We shouldn't ignore the viscious nature of the SRT-10. Yes it's 50 grand and yes if you buy one, it's really not going to be used as a truck but it is one fast beast.
