Both cars have very similar performance numbers, Mustang gets an edge with ~50 ft/lbs TQ where the 350z gets an edge with ~200 lbs less weight, both are rated at 300 hp.

I really like the 350z, had they not been so cost prohibitive I might have bought one in early 04, before I saw the actual retail version of the new Mustang.

Anyway just curious and looking for amunition for trash talking, this kid at work claims his "friends" 350z could easily waste my car. I don't know, even the 350z stock 1/4 time slips I've seen are practically identical to Mustang GT stock time slips. Telling him, "either way my car is Still faster than Yours" is getting me no where...

Well, I just traded this 350z for the GT 'vert below. I can tell you as long as you don't run from a roll, it will not be close. The GT will win hands down. That said, if you run from a roll and allow him to get up around 3800 rpm before he takes off, it will be a lot closer. If he has a 6spd and can bang the gears, you may lose if your car is stock (but it will be close). Can the 350z waste your car? No. It probably feels faster because of the way the 3.5 DOCH makes power up at the top of its power band.

But, really, I've never paid any attention to people who say "my friend's this" and "my friend's that". Tell your buddy to come back and talk to you when it's his car. Know what I mean?

Oh, and Adam, with all of your mods, you'd have to try and try hard to lose against a stock 350z.

I had a similar situation - a friend of a friend traded his Mustang GT on a 350z and was telling our mutual friend that the Z was sooo much faster than his Mustang. I offered to race title for title and haven't heard a word since. He knows.

Ironic, i just raced a modified 350z last night on the way home from the gym. He was being annoying and burrying his taillights behind my rear end and revving his engine. Finally he pulled next to me, revving again at a red light. I just glanced over and didnt bother saying a word, revved back. I usually dont bother street racing anymore, but I knew the road we were on very well, it was past midnight, and he was asking for it.

Light turns green and he gets on it hard, I launch at about 2k. Soon as I got past 4000, it was pretty much over. The amount of pull from 4000-redline with the Performance tune is pretty **** ridiculous if you really floor it. I pushed it to about 80 or so and got off it, he of course did the typical fly-by and nearly ran the next red light. For reference, I had him by about 2 cars (maybe) by the time i jumped off of it.

Any idiot can race you with his 'friends' car, which might not even exist. Those kinds of guys are a waste of time, let him think what he wants. And for the record, i gotta agree that youd take it from a dig.

Thanks for the compliment. I dont wanna race much till I get the exhaust installed thats been sitting in my living room for 3 months, and the tri-ax shifter thats been sitting in the box for 6 months. I've been waiting to do them till I can find a lift that I can use. And hopefully my friend with the proper pulley puller will be available this weekend when im off.

I can imagine his post being something like "Man, I had just replaced the drag radials with street tires last night and it was raining too, so I spun off the line but when I hooked up, I smoked that fat piece of Detroit crap with no high-end power!"

I pick my teeth with 350Zs (and G35s). I don't sweat them in the least. Unless they are turboed, they're not much of a threat. Nissan has already sucked most of the potential out of the 6 banger. They are known not to respond as well as our Stangs do with the similar basic mods.

Acceleration:
Stock, probably more a driver's race than anything else. '07 350Z now getting the upgraded VQ motor, which proabably has 20 more hp than last years, despite similar posted HP (new SEA rating system) -- might tip the balance in favor of the Z slightly.

Handling:
Z car. Lower, lighter, tighter and better suspension.

Brakes:
Z car. Might be reasonably close on the first hard stop, but Stangs fade pretty badly after that.

I saw the new Z at the Miami Auto show and it was rated at 306hp...... since it is the same engine in the G35 and it is rated at 306.......

wonder if they sandbagged the numbers a bit or if it really is 306.....

Going to have to agree with the majority of the posters above. With the exception of the '07 + 350Zs you will win easily stock for stock. Lightly Modded it wont even be a contest.

Even lightly modded '07s going at eachother the GT will usually win. We just respond better to mods at this point in time.

The GT is a cheaper base price for the car anyway so if you go the whole route of modding the GT up to the base price of the '07 350Z it will be a slaughter.

I must say out of all the supposed "stang-killer" japanese imports the 350Z is the best looking (except the nismo...that thing is FUGLY). It has some very nice lines to it.

There are a ton of them around here too so I have had several chances to run with them and haven't lost yet (all were stock I believe).
