Great story.....but a even better ending!
Ok, so my best friend used to own a 96 Firebird Formula. It was immaculate, it had about 36,000 miles on it when he sold it 3 months ago. He had done mods to it like, K&N filter, Flowmasters, and a power programmer. I had all intentions to race him, but he sold it before I got my Mustang. So we hadnt seen it since then, and while we were out cruisin tonight in the the Mustang, wouldnt you know.....there it is!! My buddy was like "You gotta stop him, stop him!" So I made a U-turn got right on his tail and started flashing my brights. The guy mustve freaked out, because he took off, and of course naturally I followed. This goes on for a few miles, all the while I am flashing my brights to get him to stop. Finally he stops, and I tell him, "Hey I got the guy in here with me that sold you your car!" So he gets out shakes my buddies hand, and then he starts to drool over the Mustang. Then I say the magic words...."Lets run em'!" He agrees to go, so we go out to the local straight stretch of highway which we like to call "the strip."
First run, I didnt hook up and he pulls ahead a half a car length. Hes still ahead a half a car until I smacked 3rd gear, and I pulled away and beat him by a car and a half by the end of the run. The run is exactly 1/4 mile. So we stopped and talked and I said, "Man that was a crappy launch! Lets do it again"
Second run, going the other direction. This time I feathered the clutch and it hooked up so good. All those times I want to burnout, and complain that it hooks up.....well it didnt let me down this time. Within the first 30 feet or so, I was a full car length ahead of him and never looked back. At the end of the run this time I beat him by a good 50 feet.
When we stopped he said, "Man you are a good driver!" I thanked him and he said "Once i get my ram-air hood put on, we will do this again!" Then it was over.

My buddy hung his head in defeat, because now he knows that I BEAT HIS CAR!!!! WOOOOO HOOOO!!! Maybe thats why he sold it, he knew the inevitable!

Just thought I'd throw in one of my kill stories for you all!!

I normally don't condone street racing but why can't people take the hint that you don't want to run. I had an S10(yes! an S10) riding my behind, punching it then getting on the brakes, the usual crap idiots do cause they think they're cool. I put up with it till we got on the freeway, 10:30pm. Growing tired of his antics I punched and took it to 110 and coasted back down till the moron caught up. Thankfully he left me alone after that. Now, same thing happens 2 days later(yesterday) with a BMW 330 coupe. Again, punch it and leave him behind. Check the speedo and whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 125!!! Crap, slow back down again and tell myself I have no need to prove these guys wrong. Then comes this afternoon. Leaving work my buddy in a Porche Boxster(2000) is following me to the onramp which is 2 lanes. As we make the turn I see him flying up in my rear view mirror. Punch it again and steadily pull away from him. 4 days, 3 street races, and if I don't slow down my wife will kill me when I get a ticket. Must be something about this car... The only thing in my defence is that at no time was there any traffic around, we even had the onramp to ourselves. Maybe I've gotten it out of my system and I can keep it to my usual Speed Limit + 10 range.

 

Yet you push it past 100 in three different street race. Right. :scratch:

 

My sister has a formula Firebird and is always bragging how fast it is. Can't wait to whoop her butt once or twice just for all the trouble she got me into when we were kids.

 

96 Forumla? I was hoping this was a LS1, but it wasn't. LT1's aren't that hard to beat.

 

Not near as "impressive" as the Firebird, but I did humble my Uncle's Taurus SHO over Christmas. He sqwaked for three days before I finally ran him. Long story short ... he shut up!

 

Yeah, they only had 275hp rated from the factory. They ran comparable times to 04 GT's. Beat an LS1 and then brag.

 

The factory 1996 Formula LT1's were rated at 285 HP and 325 ft-lb of torque. 0-60 in 5.7 sec and 1/4 mile in 14.3 sec. I'd say those are pretty comparable numbers to what the 05 Mustang is putting out. Plus with the mods my buddy had on this car put it over 300 HP. So I think I have a reason to brag. Why you try to rain on my parade falchuk!! hahaha, j/k.

Either way, I beat another crappy F-Body!!!!

 

Just today I was able to keep up w/ 95-96 C4 vette... We did the stop light to stop light caper (approx 1/5 mi.).. I was actually walking away for a slight bit... but, you never know; the guy could have been laying off... anyway, at the next stop light we exchanged a big mutual "thumbs up".... so I know he trying.... so was I for that matter....
