Ok, my buddy has an 03 WRX STI and has challenged me to a race. I have 1100 miles on my cars so I feel it's safe now that I can let it loose. The big question, and I'm kinda iffy considering the Stang's weight is, Can it take an 03 STI. I know the STI has quicker acceleration, but comming through the 1/4 mile the mustang has about a 3mph lead/difference meaning more torque at high end levels , but it is about 1/10th slower give or take. My car right now is stock. Thanks !!

what the heck is a WRX Sti? Is that made by gilette? Sounds like the name of a shaver.

 

That's a drivers race. Both cars are pretty equal. I have never lost to an sti in my friends 05. i have beaten 4, all were stock and 3 of the 4 were close races. Learn how to launch the car and you'll be fine.

How the heck did i not know that? what part in Animal house did they say that line. Iguess it has just been too long since i've seen it.

 

There was an issue of Hot Rod magazine about 1 year ago where they matched an Sti against the factory supercharged Cobra. In a street race the Sti was the winner because of superior traction ( all wheel drive ). The Cobra equipped with slicks at the strip was the winner. Based on this I'd say you're going to have a real challenge.

Who cares, at least at the end of the race your car will still look good. Seriously though, drivers race, whoever's better with the stick is going to pull ahead.

 

the new GT would smoke a stock 2003 STi and I did it. There is a huge difference between the 2003 and 2004 models. The 03 only has 265 HP and 253 LB-Ft of Torque and the 2004 and 05 have 300 HP 300 LB-FT of Torque and is heavier than the GT, but because of the all wheel drive in a straight line drag it is pretty close, the GT still edges it a bit if you know how to drive. Now the new WRX STi WR1 has 320 HP and 310 LB-FT and is a different story but they are paying 55,000 for an extra 20 HP and remember our cars are more like 310 HP stock.

It's ugly all the time. The power and the all wheel drive are impressive, but it's dog ugly.
