4.0L does have 17 hp advantage, but it also have 200 lbs disadvantage.

Which one is faster on 1/4 mile?

4.0, plus more power potential, and easier.

neither ha ha, the heavy 4.0 is gonna be slow, but HP makes no difference it is the torque that matters.

our 3800 pound dry weight on our 00 Windstar with the 3.8 will do 116 (and still counting) with 2 people in it.

2004 3.8l v6 deluxe: 190hp @ 5250rpm-220 tq @ 2750 rpm
curb weight: 3290

VRS.

2005 4.0l v6 deluxe: 210hp @ 5300-240 tq @ 3500 rpm
curb weight: 3300

These numbers from edmonds.com

I'd guess stock vrs stock the 05 edges out the 04. 20hp/20tq will more than make up for the extra 10lbs.

again, not relevant. dont take this the wrong way, but the reason so many people get angry at you is the uslessness and ignorance of your posts. no one really cars about how fast a minivan goes. hate to sound so harsh, but im at the limit.

anyway time to get

i think the new 'stang with the 4.0L will take the 3.8L
not just from the 17 extra hp, it also IMO has more potential. plus the 4.0 has already proven to be a reliable workhorse in the explorer and the ranger. i like the sound on the 4.0 a bit better too

(my first time revving an 05, a MG v6.... the salesguy was gonna let me drive it, but i had to go n tutor lil kids and to top it all off, the kid wanted to be a pain in the hiney. angrateful lil turd especially since im doing it for free. what was i thinking)

the 4.0 all day long. if you doubt the power potential of a 4.0 talk to doug904.. his ranger has more 'go power' than some v8's. I think it was a great move on ford's part to dump the 3.8 and opt for the bigger 4.0's for the sixer stangs.

Arin, I was trying to show to help in the discussion between the 3.8 and 4.0, i figured the 4.0 would be heavier and the power wouldnt make up for the weight so it would be eqaul, and i was trying to show the 3.8 is still a good daily driver motor, with enough power to propell someone into the triple digits.

The 4.0 powered 05 will beat the 3.8 powered 03-04
More power, better chassis, and since no Mustang nut keeps anything stock, better aftermarket too.

4.0 on drag
3.8 on turns and when you need a quick shot of power

67, GeArHeAd,

I agree that the 3.8 might have better low end immediate response to throttle input, but I think the chassis improvements of the 2005 might allow it to carry higher speed into the corner. Regardless of all of our speculation and who might win, I think we would all like to see a true test on the track!
Either way, enjoy your car folks.
