Modded '98 Cobra vs. my WRX from a 75mph roll...
#1
I was on the highway a few days ago when I look up into my mirror and see a '98 Chrome Yellow Mustang Cobra closing in on me. I was going 75 in a 70 zone and he was probably going another 5 past that. He proceeds to move over to the passing lane and pull up beside me.
Some of you may already know, but I'm not a big fan of street racing, I'd prefer to "take it to the track". So I found myself thinking that it'd be kinda fun to play, but I was more interested in seeing the car and seeing if it was somebody I knew. As he got up beside me, he slowed down to my pace and I heard him blip the loudpedal. It's game time boys!!!
At that point, I dropped it in third and launched. He was delayed for a bit, so I backed off, and then he went ahead. This was fine because I had a car just in front of me so I tucked in behind him. I wrapped her out through third, ran it most of the way through fourth and I was still right on his tail. By the end of fourth gear, it looked like he might have pulled a 1/2 to a full car length on me. By this time, we were going 125mph so I just pushed in the clutch and let him go.
After we both slowed back down to the speed limit, I pulled up beside him. I gave him a thumbs up and rolled down my window asking if he wanted to pull over and chat for a bit. He seemed a bit confused by what I was asking, but tucked in behind me and we got off at the next exit. Pulling in quickly behind him was a red Ford Escape. This had me a little nervous. Instead of pulling right off there, I proceeded over to a car pooling parking lot off the beaten path. Sure enough, he and the Escape on his tail pulled in behind us.
I was freaking out. I thought for sure if was an off duty police officer. Turns out, it was his friend that was following him back home from college for the weekend. Turns out he was freaking out as well, thinking that I might be a cop, wanting him to pull over and all.
Anyways, after both of us being relieved that the other wasn't a law enforcement officer, the three of us sat and B.S.'d for about 45 minutes or so. We looked over each others cars and showed what mods we had done. He had 18" 2000 Cobra R wheels, SVO/Borla side exhaust, tinted windows and blacked out taillight bezels for visuals. He spouted out a long list of performance mods, but all I can remember exactly was that he had long tube headers and some kind of engine management.
It wasn't until this point that I told him I had a Mustang as well. It was refreshing, though, that he was very open to what my car was about and visa-versa. So I guess the moral of the story was there was no kill, it was a draw.....but the meeting after the run was what made it all worth while.

Not true, got pulled over passing a cop doing 127 a while back, must have radioed to another cop 1/4 mile up the highway. That cop pulled me over for doing 127mph, but when I actually passed him I was doing 60 in a 55 zone. When he pulled me over and asked the infamous "Do you know how fast you were going?" I said sure officer, "60", he then replied, yeah 60 past me but 127 1/4 of a mile up the road more. I could help but laugh.
