2011 Mustang GT vs 03-04 Terminator Cobra
just thought id compare the two since the GT now somewhat matches the Cobra's specs stock for stock: 412hp vs 390hp (underrated i think?), 3600+lbs, 6 speed manual, both below 35k (a stock base Cobra with no options anyways..). do u think these two can be compared or am i out of my mind?

Going on a whim here, I'm going go say that while the 11 GT may post better roadholding numbers, and ergonomics I don't think it's going to match straight line speed of the Termi. Even the GT500 with a bit more than the advertised hp rating of the 5.0 and albeit a little heavier has it's hands full in a straight line with the Cobra and it's FI. It's hard to compare a N/A engine to a FI engine. They might have similar peak hp figures but under the curve is a different story especially when you consider how quick peak torque hits in an FI engine. Modability is going to favor the termi by quite a bit as well, it's hard to match them in that arena. in light of this, IMHO going to have to say tie overall, but since I'll get in a skirmish 100 times in a straight line before 1 in anything twisty I'd pick the blown one , that and the fact that the blower whine is aural bliss.

I'd give it to the '11. The Termi might be roughly equivalent in the power department, perhaps even a touch stronger, but the '11 is overall a much better car than the ancient Fox-chassi'ed Termi, even with its IRS (which while an improvement on the lively axle was still a bit of a cobbled together design and hardly state of the art.) A Termi might take an '11 in the narrow confines of a drag strip, but that's it, defeat everywhere else.

well...I have an '03 Terminator - only mods are CAI, smaller pulley, conservative tune and exhaust...and she puts down 450 hp / 490 tq to the rear wheels...
anyone who thinks the '11 can take the Termi should read 'Iron Fist Lead Foot' and then reply again (book available on line as an ebook - great read - history of Roush involvement in engine development, etc) - the engine came off the Romeo Niche Line, same one that did the GT super car...Manley rods...nuff said...
great to see the high HP mustang coming out! gonna kick the pants off those huge lunking camaros...

stock for stock the 2011 GT will beat a Termi in any catagory.
That being said I'd rather buy a Termi now for like 15k instead of a New GT for 30k+ and the mod for mod you can't beat the Terminator.

The motor of the 03-04 cobras is the equivalent of the supras in the import world. I had my 03 10th for 4 years and sold it 2.5yrs ago. I actually used it as my daily driver for 2 years in Atlanta traffic and never had any issues with it except replacing the rear end chunk seal and the O ring for the oil cooler. It was later retired to garage duty and I only put about 250 miles on it the last 16 months I had it. The car was a great car and ran so strong however the comparing the interior and suspension of the 03-04 cobra's vs the 2011 GT is a world of difference stock for stock.
Both cars are going to be great in their own worlds and right now the 03-04 cobra's are held in very high regard and will always be I believe.
the 2011's I think will be held in high regard in the future as well since it is the return of the vaunted 5.0 from the mid 80's thru the mid 90's.
Great time to be alive and a Ford Mustang fan that is for sure.
I call it a tie as they both do some things better than the other model does!!

I'd probably buy a termi over the '11 because it'd be cheaper :P but i have no doubts that the 5.0 will surprise us even more than it already has. It'll be even faster than the alleged 12.8 once it gets in the hands of some mustang mags
we need to remember that while the termi was and is one of the greatest mustangs to ever roll off the line, it cant be the best forever. we've got newer, better, faster things comin out every year. remember its greatness, but dont forget its descendants

We have yet to see what a blown 5.0 is capable of in the real world, much less one specifically built for boost with similar internals as the '03-'04 Cobras. Wouldn't rule out the new 5.0 so early. Voted for "wait and see".

Both motors are underrated, The cobra has its rarity and retained its value, the '11 5.0 will be produced for more than 2 years and will be extremely popular therefore less rare, and less special. Power isn't everything because you can always get what you want in that department later on. Cobra wins.

The question was not the nostalgia of owning one or the other. Numbers to numbers the new GT is superior. Yes I am a mustang freak the cobra is dead sexy and sounds it. Later in the yr after saving some mulah I have a build planned...2011 or 12 Gt with the track pack and 3.73 rear, Kenne Bell 2.8 water cooled SC full kit. Bassani after cat with x pipe full exhaust kit. FRPP M-FR3MGTA or MGTAA full suspension kit with 1 inch drop. Havent decided on tires prob 19 x 9 front and 20 x 10 rear rims wearing around 275 up front and 305 rears. any other ideas will be welcome I want a perfect balance of cornering grip and straight line ability the latter less imortant.
