2005 Mustang GT vs. PT Cruiser GT
I may mot like the guy for jumping ship and designing the cruiser's cheap, five years too late to the segment rival, the HHR, but just to set the record straight, Bryan Nesbitt designed the pt Cruiser.

Do you carry that picture in your wallet- or purse? j/k
If you like the car, then that's what matters right? I don't like the car, and I'm just giving my opinion on a open forum. I do understand the need for a specific vehicle that fullfills all of your needed requirements. Me personnally- well I just wouldn't have chosen that one.
A modified PT Cruiser is like an ugly chick with implants. She's still ugly. Just my opinion. Nice performance on some of these though. That black one is heavily modified. You can tell just by how much visually is done. You don't dress up an engine bay like that just for show. That's had some serious work done.
Thanks, totalsleeper. Those are definitely not "mild" bolt-on modifications (changing the turbine unit and running dual power adders). Anxiously awaiting the results of this little contest
, although I still feel that guy should've raced freebass55 sooner since the claim was made at its then-current state of tune compared to whatever it may have now.
Way off topic, but this whole thing's just got me curious about the new Mazdaspeed 3 - similar layout, lighter, better handling, and more stock hp/tq...
Price is a different story. Err, that is if I must go FWD!

I actually really like my buddy's 3 and am really interested in the Speed3 - everything I have read sounds like its gonna be one hell of a great little car - and a sleeper if you don't know what you are looking at....

what i ment by motor is stock, is all internals of the engine are stock. other than painting the valve cover i haven't even removed a gasket.
the motor in the pt and srt are the same and are built very well, so you can do big bolt on modes without changing internals.

Why do they come out with very intersting numbers (happened with the MazdaSpeed Protegé) and the actual car doesn't deliver and is so hard to modify, I have no idea ?
A safer bet for Mazda fans is the MazdaSpeed 6 in my opinion.
Honestly the pt cruiser doesn't fulfill all my "needed requirements" as you put it. As I have said earlier, I don't care much for the retro look but I'm dealing with it with subtle mods to make it better suit my taste.
If I had it the way I wanted, the same turbocharged 2.4 powerplant would be shoehorned in a silver Toyota Matrix just like this one:

Looks much more modern and has looks that really hit a soft spot as far as I am concerned. But that's just me.
Alas Matrix are _s_l_o_w_ , even with the six speed gearbox and the Celica VVT-i engine in 'em.
So I chose power and speed over looks without giving up on practicality.
I would have loved a Mustang, the new ones look badass
I hauled every light fixture and ceiling fan (in boxes) for my under construction 3 bed 2 bath 2 story house in my stang the other day...I didn't think it would all fit but somehow it did! I couldn't see out the rearview mirror, but who needs to see backwards right? There was probably 30 boxes in there, not bad for a 2 door stang.
I'm just curious, how much of an aftermarket is there for the PTs? Obviously there is quite a bit with all of the mods you guys have done, but how much aftermarket parts are available compared to cars like mustangs, GM F-bodies, ricers, etc?
I must say, it's probably not as much as for the Mustangs (I love the huge varity of choices for them), but it's not dead market, although there are not as many PT turbo guys wanting to push the envelope as there are Stang, F-body, and (gulp) ricer owners.
Read 'em and weep.

O.k., now I'm starting to get a little frustrated. He said his check engine light came on this weekend. He won't be going for sure now. I called b.s. on him. He didn't like that too much. Oh well, I am going to be there on thursday.
So, you PT guys, what kind of power would this guy be putting down with the mods I listed before? We got into it again today. He said exhaust, intake, ignition, that's it. Never dyno'd. I want a ballpark, at the wheels. What do you guys think?
Yep, a I thought: DOUCHE
Don't sweat him - the clown is just scared of being
