2005 Mustang GT vs. PT Cruiser GT

Ok, typical story. This guy at work is talking **** and says that his PT cruiser is faster than my car. Well, I initially didn't care but he keeps at it. So I told him, fine lets see what your car can do. Well, I don't know what to epect out of these cars. Are they fast or just another car with a t/c tacked on. He does have some mods but the only performance mods are full exhaust(that's what he said, but I haven't been on the ground to really look), and rewired ignition. The rest of his mods is suspension and a lot of monitors and radio stuff. I don't really care and will probably never race him anyways. But what is the deal with these cars, anybody know?

That's pretty funny. The GT has a turbo 2.2 and i think it makes around 230 hp and 240 ft-lbs. they're not light either (>3800 lbs) and if he's added a bunch of audio stuff, he's only added weight. My best guess would be about 7 seconds 0-60 and even that may be optimistic. If he crosses the 1/4 mile in under 16 seconds I'd be surprised. Theyre not bad cars, but tyhey definitely arent fast.

Well, out of the box, the PT GTs have 230hp, 245trq, and weigh 3840 (manuals). They go 0-60 in just under 7 seconds... so I'm pretty sure you'll beat it whether it has a full exhaust or not.
It'll be cool to see though :-D

More like funny to watch.
I you just race him 0 to 60 it should shut him up.
He's probably played with some older Mustangs and thinks his car is fast.

i am with him. PT Cruisers look like they were designed by a dyslexic gerbil with down syndrome and 1 eye.

3800+ lbs? Edmunds has the sedan listed at 3364 and the convertible listed at 3471. They are sometimes a 100 lbs or so off, but 400?

The GT version has the Neon SRT-4 powertrain and with the various different stage kits they have available, it can be a quick car. But it also outweighs the SRT-4 by about 5-600 lbs. It'd take a lot more than the 'exhaust only' your co-worker is claiming. Food for thought - how often do guys talking trash like that, claiming exhaust only, really have just exhaust? My guess is he's bumped up the boost and has a relatively quick car (even fast by most people's standards). But faster than your GT? Uh, no.

Here (http://www.edmunds.com/new/2006/chry...365/specs.html), it has the weight listed as 3840 lbs for the hardtop. I dont know which year you got your numbers from, but this weight is for the 2006 model. I dont know how much it changed through the years.

bobdobolina 8/30/06 04:37 PM

Ha, something is going on over at Edmunds. The 2006 weighs 3840 and they list the 2007 at 3364. That's one helluva diet!

Yeah, 500 pounds in a year? It must be carbon fiber now...

Tell PT boy to race title for title or STFU. It'd be a nice spare car to have.

Instead of having a spare car, sell it to spare yourself from looking at it and use the money towards modifiying your car.

what's more funny is that intelichoice.com says a Mustang Gt deluxe is a competitor to a PT Cruiser GT.
