So, you PT guys, what kind of power would this guy be putting down with the mods I listed before? We got into it again today. He said exhaust, intake, ignition, that's it. Never dyno'd. I want a ballpark, at the wheels. What do you guys think?
well i'm no expert on stock horse gains on those extra's, but it is not alot. the only thing to watch for is how much boost he can put through the turbo. then the exhaust will help more. in my opinion you have nothing to worry about. should be some lengths between you. the cruiser is quicker than it looks forsure though. my check engine light is always on since i put a AEM plug and play in, and i still go to the race track. hope he still goes, nothing is worse then calling someone out with "my car is faster than yours" and then not even showing up to maybe prove it. like i said good luck to both.

A GT without the Stage1 computer or upped boost one way or another is a low fifteen second car on street tires, high fourteens with a good (or lucky) driver. I never dyno'ed mine prior to the mods I have so I have no WHP estimates for you but those were my ¼ mile times with a manual transmission with similar mods. An automatic may be a little quicker but not much.

Let him live in his fantasy world and walk away. I'm telling you he can't pull ahead with these mods unless you really screw up.

There's no guarantee that won't happen.

Thanks for the responses guys. I told him he'd be lucky to gain 20-25 with the mods he has. Anyways, he knows where I'll be if he wants to show up.
Hopefully I have a good time on thurs, and I decide to keep going back.

Yeah, I think he's full of it as well. Does he even have the Stage 1 upgrade? Hmmm, exhaust, intake, ignition ........... don't know what year it is, or what model.

If it's a stock '03 PTGT, maybe about 235 max, with Stage 1, 250-255 maybe. '04 stock PTGT, 240 max, with Stage 1, 255-260 MAYBE. '05 stock PTGT, 250 max, with Stage 1, and this is just an estimate, 265-275 , but close to 300 lbs/ft of torque.

He shouldn't be estimating hp without a dyno run, or speed without a few track runs. Those are the TRUE measure of how much power a car makes.

He's beating around the bush and trash talking. Freebass whip his a$$!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention, those are crank horsepower estimates, not wheel horse power!

freebass55, have some fun out there and get more confident w/your car in those conditions to lessen the chances of blowing your launch, missing shifts, etc. If the challenge is ever re-issued at a later date, hopefully you'll have some more "things done to your car" since it sounds like either this guy has other mods in store or else he's trying to weasel his way out of what will be a loss.

auto : good tranny and shifts quick, but if you mod your car i hear bad things will happen to it. the manual trans is as bullit prof as they get from the factory, i plan to push the envelope so i'll let you know how that works out for me.

Just like most cars, auto: boring. manual: fun. If you have to commute in a city, disregard this post.

Mike is pretty dead on. The autostick in the GT's can be shifted like a stick and is way more fun than the regular auto function (same auto tranny used in all turbo models tho), but the 41te auto tranny starts to eat itself up after 285-300 lbs/ft of torque. If rebuilt with quality parts and a limited slip, you'll have to pull somewhere around 400hp or more at the crank to damage it. The Getrag 5-speed is one of the toughest fwd manual trannies I've seen. Can easily take over 400hp/400lbs, but the stock clutch won't. That can be easily fixed tho. You will destroy axles way before a Getrag.

The Getrag weighs like 200lbs more than the 41te also.

A bunch of the PT Cruisers from PTCrew will be at Irwindale tonight... C'mon by and say hi. (My car is the silver one... I'm guessing it'll be the only silver one there. But all the drivers there know about this thread...)

No. I was there last week and he called me while I was at the track, and said he wouldn't make it. We are going to schedule for another week cause he is going out of town.

I had a blast and am hooked. Where else can I have that much fun for twenty bucks, and lasts more than five hours.

If interested here are my time slips of two of my runs...

Car 7287.

I spun off the line, and I think I was shifting at about 5800rpm. I am pretty sure I can do better with more practice.

Those are pretty decent times for your first time at the track. A little more practice and you'll be cutting that time down. Glad you had fun and sorry you missed the guys last night. Maybe they'll be there when the match goes down. Hope he doesn't give you another excuse this time ..................
