I guess the concerned drivers never street raced? There's a time and place for everything and i think 2am on an empty parkway is just the place to do it. Congrats on the kill.

That's way too risky, man! You could have easily lost your licence, or even worse!
I always try to be below speed limit, even though I do like driving fast, but I only do that in Germany on the highway, where there's no speed limit. I used to drive 125-150 mph constantly in my Volvo S60 (see signature), sometimes even with the cruise control on, but it was 3am and there was nobody else around me for miles.
As for the kill... nice, but somehow predictable. I remember reading another post by someone who raced a 350Z from 0 up to about 100 mph.

Take care, don't be crazy. Go to a track instead.

It seems to me that the majority of the Mustang owners on here don't really drive these cars the way they should. Street racing has been around forever and it will not go away.

A little over a week after I got my Mustang I was challenged by a 03 350z Track up in Hanover, PA at a light. He beat me by about a car length but we only took it up to about 60.

Now I will admit I lost and there is no excuse. However, there are some factors that played to his advantage. One is that I only had the car for a week and wasn't use to it yet (I didn't get on it right at the light change, and spun the tires). The second is that I weigh 225 and I had my brother in law who weighs 200 in the passenger seat. I also had some stuff in the trunk as well. The kid driving the car had to be about 150 pounds or so at the most. I ended up talking to him a little later and he had an Intake on his Z which probably gave him about a 8-10 WHP boost over stock.

On another note I had my Mustang up to about 120 and it felt smooth, in fact I didn't even realize I was going that fast.

Good race story. You must drive like my husband. I have never been in the car while my husband raced, but it wouldn't bother me at all. I grown up at the race track. My brothers, father and mother raced. All retired about fourteen years ago. I still love the smell and sound of the track.

Last weekend my husband, son and myself were going to two car shows in our 05GT Vert. Carliel Pa. for the ford show and street rod show in york. We took back roads as much as we could. Nice ride in the country side. All I can tell you is thank God for seat belts. We came across this staight stretch were we could see very well. We were behind this truck pulling a boat. Well my husband decided to go around the boat. We sped up the gears changed up and the car took off. We crest a hill and was air born. I lifted up and hit my head on the visor. I had pull my seat up to make room in the back for my son. He is a big boy. 14 and is 6 foot tall and weight 230. Foot player for school big. Any way both of my guys screamed Wow! When the car hit the grown we were in the other lane and scrapped the front a little bit. They thought it was fun. Scared me a bit though. Ok, mybe it was fun. I know we were all smiles for the rest of the day. What a car. I asked how fast were we going he said 120. When you have a car like this you drive it like you stole it. This is his motto. So any way guys just be careful when you are having fun.

Hey guys to each his own. I dont condone street racing at all. but sometimes it jsut gets the better of you. i would in no way do it with other ppl on the road. thats just ridiculus and crazy. when its an open stretch of highway with no1 around i dont see the harm in it except for me and the other driver and thats our choice and risk to take. no1 elses.

Although i agree with bigaloz that it would seem many of the ppl here havent street raced, i was one of them till the other day, The car IS meant to do these speeds comfortable ad does so well. Howerver i do agree with the rest of you as well that is IS dangerous and not the smartest thing to do.

I had fun, no1 got hurt and the Stang is a winner. I certainely dont plan on doing it again anytime oon. Next plan is a stock run at a track for a true 1/4 mile time.

Not too many exposed to fast cars can claim sainthood, but it usually makes sense to know a car's capabilities are before, not after the fact.

Anyone can justify the supposed safe intangibles to a successful street race, the clincher would be to know the particulars of the ones which fail. There are not too many of those chest pounding posts in that respect, usually because they are too embarassed, deceased, or are getting their butts sued.

The way I see it, one race is good enough. I don't believe in second chances, but that's just me. If the guy lost by 3+ car lengths the first race, he's not going to beat you the second or third time. And if he completely messed up and missed a shift or whatever, that's his loss. I wish everytime I made a boo boo in life, I could have a second chance. Doesn't always work out that way, unfortunately.

I raced a blown '99 blue GT with a huge cowl hood on the interstate last weekend. He got on the side of me, knodded, downshifted and we went. This was starting at about 65 and I let up at about 125. I had him beat by 3-4 cars also. He wanted to go again, but I had nothing of it. Not worth the gas. The way I see it, if you can't take a beating, don't play. That's immaturity for you.

I raced a C5 Z06 a few months ago from a stop. He had me beat by about 2-3 car lengths by the time we got to about 70 or so. When we came up to the next light side by side, I gave him a respectful knod and that was it. We went on our way.

Especially when someone eggs you on like that... we've all been there.
Had a Supra come up along side me and rev its engine to challenge me, but at that time I was on hour 11 of a 12 hour trip, it was around 8 pm so there was still traffic around and there was a car right in front of me, so not really possible to do anything anyway. Only thing on my mind at that time was getting home and crawling into bed.

Can't say I wouldn't drop the hammer, either.

Been a non-issue for me thus far. No one has taken the time challenge...can't say I've been on any lonely roads, either.

I agree with all of you. If some driver challenges to a race, it must be perfect conditions for a race, dry roads, no other cars near you, and both drivers well rested. It just makes it safer. But you have these young guns who just don't understand because they think they are going to live forever. You just have to be sure you have considered all the possibilities of the out come. Just be safe and pick your races rite.

It must be the warm weather. I haven't had anyone come up to me while driving wanting to race but last weekend I had 3 challenges in a 1/2 hour. On my way to Jersey City I was on Rt 4 and this dude in a '95 Integra LS with a fart can comes up right on my tail. So close that his hood dissappeared in my rearview mirror. Man, I hate that and if I didn't love my car I'd have put on my brakes. Anyway, Rt4 yeah right, not the place nor was his car worth it. I let him go. Then getting off the Turnpike onto Communipaw an A-spec TL comes up and does the same thing. OK, I'll run with him for some fun, it's a very generous 3 lanes wide with him and I taking lead positions at the light and no cars in front. I beat him running up to around 80mph. No need to go faster, I already beat him. Then on 1&9 an RSX does the same thing but 1&9 is definately NOT the place. Let him go. Acura day I guess

We've had that happen to us a few times. There are a few cars I have wondered about on the road. Seems like everywhere I go I see Crossfires. They are so small they weave in and out of traffic. And the RX8, cool look but how fast are they. I know I am a bit car crazy. On the times where we have been approached, it was either another Mustang which was fun or these Japanese cars. Honda, Toyota you know the type. That sound they make it so odd, like is a car or a wined up toy. But just like you they get on our tail I guess to get into our draft to swing around us, but they can't keep up. We win!!!

The RX-8 is considerbly slower than a Mustang GT, but the car was designed to handle more so then go fast in a straight line. Although the last model of RX-7s are very fast, there are rumors of them coming back as well.

They aren't technically "coming back" The RX-8 is the new RX-7. The only way they will probalby bring back what they used to produce is a T/C-ed RX-8(MazdaSpeed edition)

Good kill Ron.

I love that section of the Parkway heading into NYS. Very fast twisties in NJ leading to that very long straight-away in NY. Great place to top out you car.

Someone mentioned the track fatality in CA. I find it unconscionable that a track event did not have a flagger at the pit out. This is an area of the track that cars are usually going flat out & the entering cars are at their slowest speeds coming onto the track. A disaster waiting to happen, which it did, without a flagger.

I say great kill too even tho yes its dangerous. As long as you aren't risking anyone's life other than your own... its all good!

I blew the engine on my first car street racing. Man I loved that car... oh well.

I had an older Celica w/ a fart can reving on me at a stop light last weekend... I looked over... smiled and shook my head yes (was NO ONE AROUND) ... Light changed, we took off and by 60 mph I had him by 2 car lengths... I hit my breaks briefly then just coasted back to 55 which was the speed limit... and he wouldn't even come back up beside me... just hung back about a car length until I turned off.

OOOH... got to tell ya, I had a Nissan dealer bragging about how the 350 would take me after HE stops me at a market to look at my car. MAN that pissed me off!!!! and at that time I had no way of knowing he was not right since they do have more horses... I get home going off about him being such a cocky jerk and Jason just hands me the Car and Driver w/ the 350 track times and says check them out. They were all slower than our babies! Now if I had just known that when I was talking to that jerk! HMPH!

on the way back from oregon (10hr trip from where i was visiting) i had a CLEAN rx7 match my speed (bout 90 cruising along), we slowed to 80 and stepped on it up to bout 140. he took me by bout 2cars, we slowed back to 80ish cruisin speed, nodded at each other, and the next exit went our seperate ways.

5am on interstate 5 just south of Redding is some good highway. btw, this car is VERY stable at those speeds, although its not worth the risk to do it more than a few seconds, to me at least.

Nice Job!

I used to live in West Orange.

The rest of you guys should get off your high horses and stop preaching to the guy.

I'm sure none of you have ever driven 140 :notnice:

That's why you have GT's and cobras. Speed limits are arbitrary and have never been shown to decrease fatalities. AT 2 am he was only potentially harming himself and the guy he was racing with. Nobody twisted anyone's arm.

at rush hour though this would be foolish unsafe and impossible on the Garden State Parking Lot.

btw my car was solid as a rock at 130
I encourage the rest of you guys to taste some of what this car is capable of once in a while.
well said.
you guys sound like a bunch of old ladies....
