05 GT vs Dakota R/T
05 GT vs Dakota R/T
So, I'm on this big wide 6 lane road today, and I pull up behind a Dodge Dakota R/T. The truck sounded pretty good, had a really nice custom dual exhaust out the back, not sure what other mods. I used to have a Dakota with about $5000 in mods (aluminum heads, bigger valves, cams, computer, intake, throttle body, cai, full exhaust, bla bla bla) so I am pretty familiar with it's capabalities, even if slightly modified. I knew that first gear in that thing is VERY low, and will pull like a train with that 5.9 liter/360.
So I'm still in second as I roll up behind him and just as I get to about 10 mph the light turns green and he's punches it and is almost sideways leaving the light hauling the chili. I just roll on it still in second gear and watch him pull away until I hit about 4000 rpm and keep him even at about 3 car lengths in front of me. Mental note to self, don't start out in second gear. I thought about slamming it up in first but I thought I'd just roll on in second, but that didn't work so well.
So, the next light I know for sure that it's on. The only problem, my Passport 8500 X50 is giving me some indication there may by Police in the vicinity. Could be false alarm, but not sure. Oh well, I decide to try and roll without breaking traction and gaining too much attention since the visual inspection "looks clear".
We are side by side this time, with me on the right, and leaving the light, I roll on the throttle real smooth from 1,500 to try and prevent breaking the tires loose. We are still side by side at the end of first gear. We both hit second at the same time, and this is where the fun starts. We were dead even due to my half *** start, so when I hit second, I let her eat! I laid the longest second gear burnout I've ever done in my life in second and steadily pull away from him. By the time I chirp third I'm 3 car lengths in front of him, at which time I back off and he does the same.
He had his window down, and I would have loved to watch the expression on his face as I peeled away from him threw second gear.
We got to the next light and I gave him the friendly wave and he and his girlfriend both gave me a nice thumbs up.
I was pretty happy with the kill. Good times.
