05 GT or 04 Cobra

Shinoda Boss with a blower. You'll have the best of everything.

I will add another interesting thought. What if, and this is a big IF, the rumors are true concering SVT. You will have one of the last possibly SVT cars from ford. It could be a collectors item down the road. I would love to own a supercharged car. It would be quite the difficult decision. I had no problem with my 02's ergonomics or handling, and could probably live with the Cobra. Too bad I don't have the money to go buy one, cuz my stealership has a competition orange vert on the showroom floor.

I say go with the 05, if you get the 04 Cobra, it is going to look really old in about 2 years, once there is more of the new body style running around. Wind and Road noise is way less on the 05. If you are going for a daily driver, then you would be crazy not to go with the 05.
I have driven both. The '05 is a fine car, but, it doesn't pull like a stock Cobra, let alone a modified one. Unless you plan to road race it, handling isn't that big of a deal. If it is, go see Kenny Brown and get some suspension mods to the Cobra.
Being last years model only matters if you feel like you need the latest and greatest. In a couple of years, the new GT will also be last years model. When you are driving the Cobra, you will forget all about the new GTs when that supercharger is whining and you are about to crap your pants from the thrill of nearly 500hp (if you modify it) ripping up the pavement below you.
Or, do what I am doing and wait on the next Cobra. It'll be the best of both worlds. You can save your payment amount each month until it is released and have a large downpayment.

One more upside to the Cobra is that you'll see about 10 of the new Mustang GT's for every Cobra you see. Right now people ooh-aah over the 2005, but six months from now they'll all be ho-hum, because they'll be everywhere.
And soonerjoe -- do you have anything to back up the comment that the "wind and road noise is way less on the 05"? Not digging on you, but I'd like to hear what they did to make it quieter ... because my Cobra is darn near silent, I haven't heard wind noise on a Mustang since the days of the Fox body, and I only hear road noise when I'm driving on a 20-year-old concrete freeway that has never been repaved

Don't forget the only difference isn't in horsepower. The Cobra as IRS which the 05 mustangs lack. This is an overall smooter ride. Personally, if I could choose between the most expensive model of one year past or an upcoming gt, I would go with a the best of the best, even though it is a year older. It is true that two years from now, there will be alot of 05-07 mustangs on the road. But how many 04 cobras will there be? The 04 Cobra IMO will still stand out. Both cars look mean, not like the early 90's ones...I like mean.

Thanks for all the input...
Salesman called this morning and asked if I made a decision yet?
I told him that my internet buddies were still debating...

You need to buy what you like and what you can afford. I'm having the very same internal debate as you - '05 GT or '04 Cobra? And I honestly think I could be happy with either one.
Yes, they are two vastly different cars so it comes down simply to what YOU and YOU ALONE like best.
Power? A no brainer here - the Cobra will kill most any car out there given the right cheap mods.
Looks? This is something that is very subjective - it's all in what YOU like.
Resale? The Cobra will hold its value far longer but still, a sports car should never be purchased for its 'resale'. It should be bought to DRIVE.
In the end, it's up to you. Buy what you like and enjoy it. But whatEVER you do, don't let US make up your mind!
Don't forget about the insurance cost. Call your agent and get a quote for both models.

That's a good point. The GT will probably cost more than the Cobra to insure. Not by a huge amount, but depending on how tight your budget is...

Current Cobra only made for 2 model years and what a machine! Anyone want to speculate on how they will be viewed 10 years from now as far as rarity and being collectible?
I'm sure the next-generation Cobras will be much more refined and faster. I saw the times on the new Corvette 0 -60 in 4.1 secs. Any guesses on 0-60 for the '07 Cobra?

If you haven't made your choice yet, I would get the Cobra. I am a little biased because I own one, but it is one heck of a car. They do have their problems but the 04's are better sorted out. The 05 is a great car and the quality is MUCH better, that said a mustang is all about speed. If you buy an 05 every tom, weiner, and harry is going to want to race you, and though the new GT has some power, you are still going to wind up on the losing end a lot of times. Now with the Cobra you can blow the doors off most of the cars on the road,(vettes are really fun) and you are just a pulley and chip away from some serious power. All depends on what you want, but I wouldn't want you to regret getting the 05 when you run into an 03/04 Cobra. :bang: What ever your choice you will still have fun!!!

holderca1 have you ever been to their shop? If so is it nice?
I am only about 30 miles from that Milton, FL plant.
I'm now stuck in the same delima. The wife doesn't get a good vibe with the 05, but she's crazy about a Mystic 04. The Mystic will be a bad ***** forever.
Argh..........
I'm just concerned about the quality issues with the 04. I had problems with my 2001 Lightning, that almost drove me crazy. I've fixed most of them myself and now I love the truck.
Argh........
I know this is an apples to oranges decision, but it doesn't make it any easier.

If you are looking for power then the obvious choice is the Cobra! It's be crazy to buy the V6 instead!
The thing with the 05 V6 is of course the looks! Yes it has more hp than some previous GT's but that still doesn't make it a GT.
I'll refrain from babbling. This is the only point you need to focus on:
Are you looking to get a car for the looks or looking for power? Having already put a 2005 V6 that suggest to me that you are more interested in the looks!
Brian- A proud V6 owner (but yeah I'm getting tired of my interior!)

I put a deposit down on an 04 Mystichrome Cobra tonight. It's looks have more "ooh and ahh" appeal, then even the new 05. (My opinion) It is a little flashier than I'd like, but the wife loves it.
I got a great deal. X-plan and $2500 cash back, but it's still about $5000 more than a loaded 05 Mustang GT. The dollar per horsepower spent favors the Cobra.
