'02 v6 5-spd vs. '05 v6? 5 spd?
#1
I was wondering if anyone has any comparasins of a late model sn95 v6 manual vs. an '05?
I recently test drove an '02 mustang convertible v6 5-spd with my girlfriend and salesman in the car and the car was totally sluggish...not very revy, engine bogged down when I tried to accelerate faster from a stop...just sluggish overall...worse than my mom's taurus. I'm not very demanding but it was b-a-d. I though it was because there were too many of us in the car but I compared it to a '99 eclipse convert 4-cylendar (141hp) and it performed fine which was totally wierd because the mustang had 49 more hp and more torque. Of course it wasn't that fast but like my probe it was more egar to rev.
I want to pre-order a v6 mustang convert (can't afford the gt) but no dealers in my area have v6 5-spds to test drive so I was wondering if somebody could tell me how driving the newer v6 with stick compares to the older v6...or are v6 stangs better paired with auto?

I haven't driven an 02 V6, but I did test drive a 05 V6. Here's a link to my report with some pics included. Hope this helps.......

Hi,
I just bought the V6 auto which is going to be different from the manual. I am a wimp and I don't drive manual some would say. Anyways back in 2001 I test drove a V6 stang and it was very sluggish for a six. I ended up buying a Honda civic instead. My friend had a dodge stratus 6 at the time which felt much more responsive then the mustang. When the 2005 came out my intention was to purchase the V6 if it were to my liking. As it turns out I now own a new Mustang. The new V6 may be only 15 HP more but it sure feels like a lot more then that. Its a totally different animal and though most of the people on this site seem to be much more for the GT I think you will be happy with the V6 manual. It feels like a much more expensive car then it is. Not only is it much peppier but the handling is much better and it is a super tight feeling car. The previous mustangs don't compare! Ford has both the GT and V6 priced great compared to what else is out there. Even at MSRP this car is a great deal! Good luck..

Here's a link to a review of the 2001 Mustang V6 5 spd coupe:

<!--QuoteBegin-edmunds 2001 v6 road test
Buzzing around in this staple of the rental lots was an eye-opener for us. With a manual gearbox and all those horses on tap, there's plenty of gusto to entertain the driver. And the acceleration times bear that out, with a quick 0-to-60 time of 7.6 seconds ...
Through the slalom, this humble V6 coupe ran through the cones at 63.3 mph, which is faster than a BMW 330Ci we tested. [/quote]

actually i am having trouble understanding why you have issues with the previous years 6. My friend has a 01 manual and it has plenty of power even with four people in the car. i've never had issues launching it and never felt short on power. I have a gt but enjoy driving her 6 as well.

Falchion...thanks...chop off that black v6's top and that's MY mustang!
But let me ask you this...the v6 may be adequate but is it FUN at all? I mean, just because it's not a v8 doesn't mean it can't be fun!
I donno....maybe I was shifting wrong? My v6 probe revs real quickly so maybe I was shifting too soon on the mustang. Or maybe something was wrong with the car...I mean, it was a v6/leather '02/ 19k miles convertible and they were only asking 10k! Lol, broke my heart I didn't like it more. It's on long island if anyone wants to try it...
