They put out 280 at the rear wheels, how you think they would lose with headers and 456s just proves you have a bit to learn, i drove an 03 and no way with 260 at the rear wheels could they win. I like the new Stangs but dont think for a min those road tests are worth a thing.

With a 4.56 Posi rear, a 4 speed, and a stock motor, a 69 Z would be quite fast. As fast as, if not faster, than a 96-98 4.6 Stang and certainly faster than a 5.0, but against an 01 the Stang probably would win. Maybe by one car length.
Don't underestimated a 7000rpm solid-lifter small block.

Ok for all the people that know nothing about the old muscle cars but the tales that are told by old people.
A completly stock 60's Z28 will put down less then 200 hp to the wheels.
I know this will upset people but a completely stock 428cid mustang only puts down 230-250rwhp just slightly higher then a stock 99-04 GT.

Look at this page here:
http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclec...istory-1.shtml
Scroll all the way to the bottom and look at the factory performance numbers on a 69 Z28:
(Z-28) 302/290bhp: 0-60 in 7.4 sec, 1/4 mile in 15.12 sec @ 94.8mph
And remember, there is a big variation between the old Gross hp rating and the net ratings. Some engines lost over 100 hp with the conversion

Look Alan, youre wrong. I think its time to cut your losses. You have 3 posts here and none of them are making you look too smart. There is no way a 69 Z28 is gonna beat an 02 GT.

I can assure you that anything spelled wrong, like 'gonna' was intentional in the interest of saving time. Second, age doesnt automatically make you smarter, so leave that out of any problems you have with me. Third, most of the guys on here are pretty cool and open to different views, but when you go throwing around stupid ideas, like a stock 69 Z28 being able to beat an 02GT, someone is going to burst your bubble.
Good riddance to bad company.

And I recall seeing a few stock Z28s doing about 225whp on a dyno...

They had a big block shoot out and the 67GT500 and a 68GT500KR both dynoed in the 230's rwhp a Boss 429 and a 1971 429 SC both dynoed just over 240rwhp. a 67 390 BB dynod 190rwhp.
They also tested a 1999 Mustang GT and on the same dyno did 240rwhp
