Wanting to buy Shelby GT
Wanting to buy Shelby GT
Ok, I am coming to the dealers I trust, the ones on Brad's site to ask about the possibility of ordering a Shelby GT. I am going to do the Las Vegas pickup so it doesn't matter to me where it is in the nation. I have had some dealers in the local area telling me $15,000 over MSRP for this car which is absurd.
Looking to see what I may be able to work out through faxes and wire transfers instead. Please PM me or respond in this thread with how much of a deposit you would want and especially the price your dealership is asking.
Thanks for any help guys.

15k over?! WTF did something change? n/m i'll pm you.
Well yes as other people are getting it for MSRP (I've counted 14 people on different sites) and about half of the dealers are saying 5K over that I called today. That was nine dealerships so far, going to continue tomorrow.
Yea, my CINCHOUSE said to pay it but I finally found one that says it will be MSRP. I'm not counting on it until I get it in writing. They are out of state but no big deal to me since I am flying to Las Vegas to get it as well. It just took a lot of calling to find what I was willing to pay.

I plan on driving it back but will most likely get X-pel put on it beforehand or will take the right roads and make sure I stay way behind anyone up front. ...or maybe I will just pass them quickly.

Dealer Add-ons continue
I got a call today from a local dealer that I had contacted with regard to a GT500. TThey have a black Shelby GT hit the floor today. MSRP is just under $40K and the "addendum" is $20K!
As he was telling me about it the stripes were stated as being "white" instead of silver and the hp was 350hp? I thought they were closer to 320hp. Anyway, the silliness never stops!

I'm stuck there, I'm not allowed to sell them for under $5k over. One thing to remember about the SGT is that there is no 'cost' on the conversion. A dealer pays the exact same price that is on the sticker. So a Shelby at sticker is the same profit margin as a normal Mustang GT. i.e. the GT500's difference in price between it and a GT has a proportional amount of profit in it like a new 43k+ suv would(including a larger holdback as it is also proportional).
I'm not a big fan of markups either, but its much less $profit$ then say a GT500 at 5k over..I think this is pretty much where it will end up, as most dealers at the get-go didn't really realize there was no margin at sticker and the average asking prices are starting a trend to go up now. Being the info was really sparse on the car at all, most dealer's didn't even understand the program until recently. Then they find out there's no margin in the markup, and that they're only getting 2 or 3..... bling bling
I remember when standard GT's were getting 5k over all day long(not to mention 10k over PT cruisers once upon a time..). But you do see it in the resale(the mustang, not the PT), even used 05's are still going for stupid money at local auctions, and the GT500's pricing has caused a huge surge in 03/04 Cobra values(they're up about 4k from what they were getting less then 2 years ago). The boss here wanted 6500 over for our SGT's, but I kinda-sorta cheated the price down a bit
HP is stated at 325hp. Its the standard FRPP power pack with the exhaust and the CAI/tune. Its not quite as agressive as the typical predator tune being warranty safe. Put an aluminum driveshaft on it you can probably scrape right up against 350hp without disturbing the 'integrity' of the Shelby. I think you'd be nuts to mod it anyway. You're buying a 'real' shelby, not something to hop up.
You'd probably be a little nuts to drive it.
As an example, the SGT's I ordered are fully loaded. The car itself MSRP is $32665, invoice is $30334, holdback is $958. So raw profit is only $3289.00. Car dealers bill themselves a 'pack'(the matrix average cost per unit for the entire inventory just to own the car, pay for the PDI, state inspection, full tank of gas, wash on delivery, loaner car program, ect-average is around $500). And the salesperson has to make a living so they need to pay him, and the lights need to stay on...So its really less then even that. Its not like a Coach purse they pay some kid in a 3rd world country .30 a day to make hundreds of them and your wife makes you buy it for $900.
If you found a $32665 Edge and sold it at sticker, the profit margin would be identical. So taking the rarest of all S-197 SE's, a 'true' Shelby nonetheless, and selling it for less margin then an Explorer.... You can see where the dealers are coming from. Personally, I think it would be kind of embarassing if a dealer had to discount a Shelby like it was an XLT Escape. If you went and bought one for MSRP, would you turn around and sell it the next day at invoice?

Good luck and I mean that! I've been looking too!...I think in time MSRP will be available ! but at first dealers are going try to rape and plunder... don't give in! My Boss (Wife) told me go ahead and pay the dealer gouge but I'm not going to do it!.... hang in there brother of the Stang!
You need to keep shopping!
I just ordered my car with no ADM. I had to go through 9 dealers to get it! There are a few tactics here that you can use. The first is to just go into a dealership and ask about the Shelby GT. In each of the cases I did this the salesperson and 8 out of 10 times, the sales management started talking about the Shelby GT500. This is good. Means they are clueless. So you can say never mind and tell them you want to order a GT not a GT500. They still will have no clue. So you sit and rattle off your options codes including the 54U. They have no idea what an upfitters package is. (nice name Ford) Get your contract, get it signed, and get your deposit in. Once you do that, if all goes well, call back the next day and make sure they enter the drop ship code to Shelby etc. At this point if they realize the issue you may be able to bully them back to the contract etc. This has worked for some.
The second tactic, and you can use this with above, is to ***** about ADM on a car obviously no one but a few fanatics want. As I said to my dealer, how can you tell me there is a market adjustment on a car you have had available to order since November that you had no idea of and no one but me come in and ask for! duh! Where is this market?!?!
Also you can point to ebay, where most look anyway to see what the "market" is and you will find that 90% of the Shelby GTs there are either not selling, high reserve, or going to 3K over because someone wants it NOW or has had problems with dealerships wasting their allocation getting cars for the showroom without the options people want.
For example I had a local dealer that wasted theirs on an automatic without the interior upgrade, Nav or even Shaker 1000.
The fact is, as Kevin has said, there are some dealers, and you can't blame them look at the year Ford has had, that are trying to make a few extra $$$. There are some, like mine, that want the sale and if all dealers are asking $5K over what's my incentive? Again, it's almost four months into the program and I'm the only customer so far! Do you want my money?
Now, some won't, rather gamble, and that's fine! I don't begrudge them for trying to make money! Just as I hope they don't for me trying to save money! ;-)
So keep looking, calling, and be prepared to do lots of driving! Oh, and have your checkbook ready!

I have a Black SHEL GT with nav on the showroom and a white one ordered; also have a 427R due any day. PM me if interested. I think I can sell with no ADM...
FWIW, the Shelby GT is "officially" rated at 319 hp...

Capital Ford, Raleigh, NC sells Shelby's for $20K over sticker. Another local dealer, Crossroads (wake Forest & Cary NC) have a range from $14 to $20K.
But here is something disappointing about Shelby's: while looking at one in the showroom, I noticed that the holes drilled in the hood for the hood pins did not have any covering over the bare metal (I don't mean on the top of the hood). Looking up, through the hole, you could see bare matal and the hood insulation. No rubber groumet, no coating, no nothin' That's two more places to rust out - and rust out fast. Are all Shelby's like this?
If so, then hell has frozen over.
