Ok I know the Leather Seats are not all leather.
Frankly I dont care.
What I do care about is:
What parts of the seats are leather and what parts are not.
I have searched forums all over the net and cannot seem to get a difinative answer from anywhere.
I asked Ford from the owners web page and got flat out ignored.
The best I can get is the seating surfaces are leather.
What does that mean?
The seating surfaces from where to where?
Up the sides, all the way across to include the center section? down the front? sides of the seat back and across? or what?
The Headrest?
The Back Panel of the front seats?
The console lid?
Is any of the Back seat leather?
The door panel inserts?
The steering wheel wrap?
Can anyone answer with a straight detailed description?

I just want to know what parts of my seats I treat with Leather conditioner and what parts with Vinyl conditioner.

Sorry if I sound a bit perturbed.
But I am.
:bang:

I know what you mean. I go thru the same thing on my LX Sport. Too bad they don't make a conditioner that works for both leather and vinyl. But I'd say that only the top of the seat and the back cushion (in other words, what your butt and back touch) are the only leather surfaces. The rest is probably vinyl.

Does anyone know for certain?
I just got off the phone to Ford Customer Service for an hour with no results.
Not that they didnt try, they just didnt have any resource.
They told me to contact the dealership parts dept because they have access to the engineering dept.
Well that was also a dead end.
In fact they said use saddle soap on all of it.
Whoa!!!! Never use saddle soap on leather let alone vinyl.
There has got to be someone with an answer, somewhere.
Any Ford engineers out there that can look up the drawings or something??

I am almost certain that only the top panels of the front seats are leather. Also the steering wheel and shifter since you have the IUP. Everything else is vinyl. I have always heard the best way to tell between leather and vinyl is to stab your finger nail into the material. Leather will show a half moon indent from your nail for a few seconds, vinyl will show no indent.

On my 2000 GT you can tell because the leather is perforated. On my car it is only were your butt sits and a little up the backside.

I have not seen an 05 leather interior yet so I do not know if they have the perforated seats.

No combination conditioner. The essentials for each material is too different. But for just basic cleaning I like Ivory hand cleaner soap (not dish soap) in a bucket of warm water. I use a white diaper so I can see when the dirt stops rubbing off the material then I know it is free of dirt.

Yes, there is a combi conditioner and it is a new product I found at the GM Dealer
Let me check if they have a web site, for the guys on the West Coast the product is called SMART.

I'll have to read again, but i'm 99% sure that Zaino Leather in a Bottle is good for vinyl too.

and as for feeling ripped off, i never expected it to be full leather...nothing in the wording ever says that (it's always leather seating surfaces). heck, even luxury car companies do that on their entry models.

I can't believe that the rear seats are vinyl. :notnice: That is crazy, here I have been taking care of it like it was leather. I wonder if that Ford responder got the correct info.
