How much over invoice should I expect to pay?
I'm planning to order an 06 (or 07 if they have moved onto those orders already) GT Premium, in Feb/March of 2006.
How much over dealer invoice do you think I would be able to get away with? I sure don't want to pay MSRP...
I don't WANT to pay any more than 500$ over invoice, but I don't know if that is realistic at all. Opinions?
Options I will order are IUP, Spoiler Delete, and 5-Speed Manual.

Hard to see, the future is. </yoda voice> If the "new design" frenzy dies down by then you might be able to get a deal for well under sticker. Demand is still high right now though, GTs have been out almost a year and are still going over sticker in some areas. But hey, if gas prices continue to fly, dealerships may not be able to give away Mustangs by then.
All depends on supply/demand and you are talking about several months off. $500 over invoice is probably a bit optimistic.
If I were waiting until March 2006, I wouldnt order one but search around for what I wanted in stock somewhere. I think you're more likely to get a deal that way, but might have to settle for something less than 100% what you want.

You can get them for sticker here in Indiana at most dealers if you order. Once they get one on the lot that THEY ordered, then you have to pay over invoice. I think most 06's will be pretty easy to negotiate on after a few months.

As for the original question, it all depends on where you're from and where you plan on buying the car. A lot of people on here paid much less than sticker (MSRP). But there are also plenty that paid less than invoice (dealer price). I paid $700 under invoice which was $3,274.00 under sticker.
Thanks for the replies guys, I am in the Phoenix area.
Your real concern should be your "out the door cost" which here in Phoenix would normally include the 8.8% state/city sales tax.
Unless you go way out to Buckeye and deal with Tom Jones Ford. Not only did Eddie Grabowski, their Internet Sales Manager, beat everyone else's quote in the Phoenix metro area (I did all my shopping via e-mail), but Tom Jones does not charge Phoenix city sales tax. Total tax was 6.6% which at these prices can be a sizeable savings.
When your ready, send Eddie a message.

Thanks for the info
I'm in the Tucson area, I could not find anybody willing to go below sticker here, so I went out of state. Either pay sticker, wait, or even more difficult, find a dealer who will sell to you on x-plan.
==I paid $250 under invoice
no x-plan or anything==
How??? You can't touch a GT around here for under sticker, much less under invoice. Did you find some small town where Mustangs get overlooked for pickups? Did you buy a 5000.00 extended warranty? Would love to hear the "secret" here.

Contacting a LOT of dealers is one of the keys to getting a good price. If you're contacting less than 20 dealers then you're not trying hard enough... unless you already got the deal you were looking for.
