This is a great idea I certainly appreciate any information you can provide to my questions.

I have typically been a Bike guy (Ninja's, CBR etc) but I decided I wanted to buy my first sports car and well decided on the GT 500. Went into a Ford dealership and simply put my deposit down and said let me know when I need to come in for the rest. I'm currently sitting at what the dealer calls 18..okay the questions..

1) My Brother in law works for FORD and advised me of the XPLan program. He has no idea if the GT 500 will be available on these types of plans..(he's a mechanic) but told me I should ask...will it?

2) I do not want to pay full retail for this vehicle what are my chances of being able to negotiate with the dealer on what we both can agree is a fair price. The Dealer has quoted 55K Canadian or 40K USD. From my perspective I want the whole nut 19" Tires and every other bell and whistle that happens to come along with the car. Any thoughts on how I can work with the dealer in a) getting a Fair price that I can walk away feeling like I got a deal, and B) I don't want to offend the dealer, and C) did I mention I love this car...and have only seen pictures.

Thanks for all your help!

Cheers,

Requis

I would seriously doubt that the GT500 will be offered on any type of purchase plan.

I do not know how they could quote a price as we are at least a year away and NO pricing let along specs have been published.

I can almost guarantee you that you will not be able to buy it for under MSRP; which has not been announced.

1. No

2. No.

I am glad you like the car. Your dealer is probably only getting 1 or 2 a year. If you are 18 on his list, well you do the math. You'll be driving a hydrogen powered Cobra in 2015.

I had heard they would make as many cars as required to meet demand?

Thanks for the heads up!

Okay Well that completely stinks...I guess my first time experience with FORD is about to UBER Bite. Thanks for the heads up. The dealer I went to indicated he was getting 20 Cars which is a far cry from 1-2.

So how does one improve ones chances of getting one, is this something my Brother in law who works for FORD could help me with? Does working for FORD improve your chances of getting a vehicle...sorry for all the questions its kind of like finding out about the girl your dating is in love with another chick..it sounds cool but how do you get in on the action.

Cheers

Can you post a link to the letter I can't seem to find it...

Thanks

requis

Never mind I googled it. Adding that I spoke to my Dealer and apparently the rules are different in Canada. Dealer classification and size of dealership(Number of cars sold per year) play a big role in Canadian Allocation. They assured me I would get a car and that they would know more by the end of September in terms of price, options etc.

So I guess I'll be happy paying list...

ISELLFORD,
The quote for the Shelby-Cobra is @ 7.000. Is this a "one time production run only" or there will be more built in 2007/2008? What is your guess $$ for the MSRP? Thanks.

Ford has not told us anything past next year. The 1st year is going to be around 7500 units or so. No MSRP has been published but the talk around seems to be in the $40K range

I would question how this person knows that they are getting 20! At the dealership I work at, we have not been given any input of allocation.

Went back and clarified it is unlikely any GT 500's will be allocated until September 2006. And given the number of Canadian SVT dealerships 13 in Canada (approximate or he meant in Ontario alone) The dealer indicated they are likely to get at least 16 vehicles. As there will be a limited qty specifically for CDN dealers. Given that this time frame falls into our fall / Winter period (bad weather, snow and the like) he indicated they are likely to get the larger percentage of vehicles as we (Ontario represents the biggest market in Canada) have the largest population base to draw from.

So with that being said I have been advised that they are now weeding out those on the list who have paid deposits with those who haven't. And I have moved up the list I now sit under 10. Apparently some have withdrawn. Either way I'm moving up the list.

Cheers,

Requis
