Mustang in SPEED GT World Challenge
I knew Mike Davis was trying to get his new Mustang in Speed GT, but I'm not sure if it's a whole new car, or just a body over his old Saleen SR.
I spotted it a couple times watching the broadcast of Road America. Anybody have any details?!

It's an all-new car. The SWC cars are production based, so they can't just be re-bodied like a tube-frame. I saw him a few times in the background, but he didn't get much of a mention from the broadcasters. IIRC, he finished 29th, which likely means he didn't finish. The car's still a work in progress, once it gets sorted out i'd expect to see it do a little better. Especially if Mike puts Boris into the driver's seat a few times....

finally ford representation in this series. Hopefully there will be a couple more teams started (c'mon jack roush) or something. it'll be awesome, when the car get srted out with wimmer penalties and all there will be a mustang in the front soon.

I'm not holding my breath for any big wins to come from this. Davis has always been mid-pack at best in SWC, though Boris Said ran pretty well in one of his cars a few years back at Laguna. (2nd to Wolf Henzler). A big part of the problem is that GM, Dodge, and Porsche all support their teams in SWC GT, while Ford is concentrating on GA Cup. Of course, if the Man Racer comes to fruition, this could all change.

it looked to me that ford is trying to make a new series out of the man racer. kind of a new version of the trans am series. which is great. although when you really think about HOPEFULLY something comes of it.

The ACS team ran 2 cars this season, with Mike Davis in one car and his son Brandon in the other. Brandon had 3 poles and 2 wins this season, and ended up 3rd in the championship behind Rand Pobst (Porsche) and Andy Pilgrim (Cadillac). Mike ended up 12th in points with a best finish of 7th.
I got to take a close look at the cars at Road America, and they're a lot more trick than the Koni cars. The engine starts as a Ford GT crate motor, but is built up by Huffaker Engineering naturally aspirated. t puts out around 550-600 hp, and sounds like a beast.
They also use the Ford GT transaxle, rear mounted and IRS. http://huffakerengineering.com/proford.htm
